Do we get to know what the sauce is?

I know many of you use slow cookers & am wondering if you can help me out. I found a recipe for Beef & Red wine casserole but it mentions using a ready made packaged product for the sauce. I looked at the package at the supermarket & wondered how to make the same thing.
Is the sauce similar to a gravy of sorts?
I want to make a whole dish without any packaged items(spices ok..) but am unsure which cooking sites to look at?
Do we get to know what the sauce is?

I was about to delete this thread as I looked through some of my cookbooks/HFG mags & think I found the info. Is this what you would put in a slow cooker for a beef & red wine casserole?
Steak, cubed
fresh thyme
dry red wine
olive oil
brown onion, carrots, celery stalk, green beans,
plain flour
beef stock
tomato paste
potatoes
garliccccc

Beef Bourgignon might be what you are looking for. Here's a recipe. No tomato sauce, though.
