What should I consider when looking for a saddle?

My Specialized Expedition came with a big cushy saddle that I have found quite comfortable. Lately the springs in it are very loud/squeaky no matter what I do. It's obnoxious and I think I'm ready to try something new. I really have no idea what to consider when I'm looking at new saddles. What is important?

if it's comfortable, try lubricating where it is squeaking. The only thing worse than a comfortable saddle is an uncomfortable saddle.

read the posts in these threads. people don't replace saddles just because they squeak. they replace them because they are in agony.

Yeah- put grease all over the metal parts under your saddle, and see if that solves it. Finding a comfortable saddle is often difficult.
