    DC's Smartbike program to expand

Very cool news: Smartbike program expected to grow by summer. Good to hear that it's been so successful.

Unfortunately, WTOP's copy editor displayed his/her usual standard of quality. Pedaling is spelled "peddling". To my way of thinking, that's an epic mistake
"How about if we all just try to follow these very simple rules of the road? Drive like the person ahead on the bike is your son/daughter. Ride like the cars are ambulances carrying your loved ones to the emergency room. This should cover everything, unless you are a complete sociopath."
David Desautels, in a letter to velonews.com

Random babblings and some stuff to look at.

I gave them a little constructive comment.

You're braver than I am, I stopped even reading the comments at WTOP. Buncha' scary trolls at that site.

Doesn't mean I'll go back and read any of the other comments.

They must have gone in and corrected it, as there was no error like that.

I did brave the comments section. I have to agree with the sentiment -- if not the terminology used - those are danged fugly bikes and you'd have to be pretty hard up for a bike if you wanted to steal one.

Yay, they fixed it. I guess the right person saw your comment, Possegal.

I would assume that the bike's are fugly specifically as a theft-prevention measure, or at least partially for that reason. Be prepared-- if things go as planned, the city will be overrun with fugly bikes this summer

Mission accomplished. Now if only the tvguide and jibjab would pay attention to my St Paddy's vs St. Patty's day rant.

Possegal, changing the world one error at a time.

Hmm, they say they are using stimulus money for the expansion. Sounds good to me.

Hopefully the bikes won't get trashed like is happening in France.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

our bikes seem to be standing up well. I'm not sure but I want to guess it is because of our different system- we pay for a year long membership and rent with by using identifying information. Over there, they rent by using a euro or two and it is anonymous. But they also have a lot of crime and graffiti- not to say we don't but in NW it is a bit different
Thanks TE! You pushed me half way over!

An update to the SmartBike program from WTOP.com: Message of improved bike safety driven home. DC seems to really be trying to get its act together about bikes. Pretty cool.
