Cycling makes my organs normal again

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Haven't been cycle-commuting work much in last few wks. So tonight was first time in last wks. my work commute included biking homeward. A lovely evening --6 degrees C, no wind.

Early this morning, I was feeling constipated, flushed in face..but once I cycled for first 10 min., my whole body and tempermental organs..felt normalized. It's like taking a quick medicine...

I often find this: cycling seems to 'normalize' all my bodily functions, particularily if I'm abit off-kilter.

    It's too cold for me.
I suppose I'll just have to remain off-kilter.

Well, prunes are high in anti-oxidants and potassium. And they taste good. And...

I agree that prunes will get you right back on kilter, Zen-girl!! I love prunes. How about prune butter? I think you can order it from the Vermont Country Store.

Or you might try a run--that can get things moving (as evidenced by all the discussion of runners' trots in the running forum...)

    I would totally agree...

There is so much research about all the benefits of even small amounts of exercise. The "good" of it is mind blowing really.

Pedaling and getting my endorphine boost completely cleanses my soul. I turn into a glass half full person, from a glass half empty one.

The organs get increased blood flow from the exercise and can do their work better. Typically we drink more water when cycling, that helps the bowels work better, etc.

Sometimes you don't realize how much cycling does for you until you are without it. Then it all makes sense.

Zen, I bet you could run like the wind (and be immediately cured of any 'irregularity") if you were to encounter "THEM"!!!!I know I would! (have you seen the posting "For Zen"?) Tokie

Hope others who haven't joked here,.. understand what I mean.

When I first returned to cycling at 32, I never cared about that type of stuff. Or at least I never paid attention.

'Course I meant much broader sensations of digestive system, heart, muscles, brain etc. Just some cycling just resynchronizes all of those bodily functions back into 1 coordinated symphony for me.

Sorry Shootingstar, it was just too much fun. You are right, a bike ride is so good physically and mentally too. And if you're riding with a friend, the social aspect seems to amplify all the benefits even more! Tokie

There is a point in lives of many women, maybe in the 3rd decade and onward (or after a woman has had children) where the f*rt jokes ...are..more relevant. I'm relieved that cycling allows freedom to let loose to the wind.

I'm not kiddin' We're so lucky to be so uninhibited because of our sport.

Well it's true- cycling and exercise makes you healthier and better feeling all over and in every way. My husband bikes as well, and yes it's all a joy to us.

I was out of shape for years before I started biking and walking 2 1/2 years ago. (I'm 54 now) One of the more interesting benefits I found when I started fitness walking (before I got my bike and was still only walking) is that believe it or not it reduced the times I needed to get up and pee in the middle of the night. That was unexpected and very cool! I also noticed I was no longer sore and 'creaky' in the morning when I got up. Didn't need to 'thaw out my bones' in the morning- now I can just jump out of bed feeling good.
