Several weeks ago my gym announced a mandatory staff meeting this evening.

Then I got my schedule for this month, and I was the lucky instructor who got to teach the 9 a.m. aerobics class and come back at 4:30 for the staff meeting.

My initial reaction was "what a pain in the *$$" and "for what I get paid, I'm supposed to drive an extra 30 miles?" But it didn't take long for me to figure out that this was the opportunity I'd been waiting for. I could throw my cuing notes folder, my bike, my cycling gear and a set of street clothes in the car in the morning, ride home after my class, ride back in the afternoon, shower and change, and then drive home after the meeting.

    * I wouldn't have to carry anything on the bike.
    * I could make my initial run, and figure out just how long the trip was going to take, without any time pressure.
    * Being a Sunday, I wouldn't have to contend with rush hour traffic.
    * I wouldn't have to deal with low light conditions or sleep deprivation (my own or the cagers').

So it was great! The route I'd planned worked out perfectly - the one little dicey spot wasn't a problem with as light as the traffic was.

Not sure when I'll get my next chance to try, but I'm definitely going to do it again (without the extra trip in the car next time - although I'll have to carry my cuing notes).
