A long strip of unused condoms in purple wrappers. My riding partner (female) stopped to get them. Don't know what she did with them; don't want to know!

I often see used condoms...I don't stop to pick them up.

And we have plenty of rats also. It's interesting, in a disturbing kind of way, to watch them go from freshly killed to a bit smushed to nearly nothing over the course of a week or two.

I found a dog once. He was just running down the street, in a very affluent 'hood, obviously not supposed to be out. He was wayyyyy cute, I think he was a Fox Terrior. When I first saw him in the distance, I thought he was a rabbit, he was so fast.

I tried to catch him, but every time I got up next to him and slowed down, he'd speed up, which made people think he was my dog, and I got scolded for not having him on a leash. I ended up riding along with him, pointing him out to passing cars so he wouldn't get hit (at least he was running in the breakdown lane, which was good). Eventually he turned down a less busy street, and I had to leave because I was going to work, and really, what could I do if I did catch him? I was on a bike, after all. I couldn't hold him and the bike, and walk. So, I left and called animal control. Leaving him was the hardest thing to do. I still wonder what happened to him.

    The fan off a car.

Not the fan belt, the fan. No idea how it fell out. Or how far the rest of the car got without it.

A couple days ago my dad was biking to work (yay!) and came across a dog that had gotten loose from its owner, who was frantically trying to catch him. My dad on his bike helped, basically by chasing him away from the busier streets until he was worn out enough that he stopped running.

We were just relieved that the dog did have an owner nearby. Twenty years ago my dad was out jogging and we ended up with the ugliest, biggest, friendliest stray mutt. "She just followed me home," he claimed. We asked if he was waving a steak in front of her?

    empty cash drawer

My strangest find was on a cold (5F), windy, winter morning. Alongside the road to work was an empty cash drawer. I stopped to ponder it and decided that it looked in pretty good condition, and hadn't been there yesterday when I rode by. So I pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911. Since it was a cell phone I reached the state police, explained my find and location on the edge of 2 towns. They knew a convenience store had been robbed the night before and routed me to the appropriate police department. The only problem was that the police wanted my car license plate and make. I explained that wouldn't help them since I was on my bike not in a car. They wanted me to wait for them to arrive, so I asked that they come sooner than the 30 minutes they suggested, explaining my concern about hypothermia in the cold and wind. I did pull out the mylar blanket I always carry in the winter to break the wind more, but was pleasantly surprised when a police car pulled up within 5 minutes. The officer was quick about taking what information I could give him, looking at my ID, and taking down phone numbers. He also checked that I was ok cold wise before letting me head on to work.

    That's a great story, Newfsmith!
I haven't found anything, except roadkill (squirrels and chipmunks), which I quickly ride around.

one day I was riding alongside a road with heavy residential and a big plastic soup ladle came flying out of a backyard fence.
I found that odd and amusing...

There was a big metal frying pan on Pepper Rd. the other day. It was pretty dented on one side.

I once saw a whole pizza. In the box, but the box was open enough so you could see there was a whole pizza in there.

Oh my gosh, that reminds me. When I was a young college student, I used to drive a real lemon. One day I was approaching an intersection and my driver's side hubcab came off and rolled through the intersection and made a perfect left turn. It jumped a curb and smashed into the side of a Pizza Hut.
