    Recommendations for Edinburgh

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I will be doing a bike ride in the Trossachs national park and highland Perthshire and then spending 4 nights in Edinburgh. Would anyone have a recommendation about a nice hotel? Any other recommendations (theater, live music...)?

    Thanks in advance!

PS: I should mention I'm going at the end of June.

Wow! I spent a week there but it was 20 years ago and mostly I remember that I had a good time, bought lots of sweaters, and drank a lot of single malt scotch and ate a lot of salmon. We stayed at the hotel near the train station - like that's a big help. The Caledonian maybe? But 20 years is a long time and it might be all different now.

    Have a great trip!

I stay in youth hostels everywhere I go so can't help much with hotel recomendations. The Cowgate youth hostel is good if you get a private room that doesn't overlook the street in front of the building. Friends have stayed in some university residences at that bottom of Arthur's Seat that were pretty good.

The city runs a free shuttle bus between several art galleries and museums. That's a good way to get around. There are two museums that share one large building. One of them is great for the history of Scotland.

Climb Arthur's Seat. There are several different routes up the hill.

There are a lot of independant hostels too, not just the YHAs - http://www.bug.co.uk/reviews/hostels...urgh/index.htm
