One of my dear biking friends who does LOTS of commuting in the Portland, OR area tells me of a time where she pulled up alongside a vehicle at a light and found a guy watching a movie on his visor screen. Yes, he was the driver, and you guessed it, it's not just any ol' movie, it's a PORN!!!

My experience was with another cyclist. I was doing the Reach The Beach for the American Lung Association and lucky me, I got caught behind a beanbrain who was riding along with her ipod plugged into one ear and her cellphone on the other. She was not a stable rider and in fact I overheard her asking someone else "what are the gears for?" (gonna be a long 100 miles babe!). This was of course in a downtown area where dozens of us were jammed up behind her because we didn't want to veer out into traffic. sigh...

You know how you look back on the teen years and realize that you really were as stupid as adults thought you were?

Don't slaughter me but this thread reminded me of a time that I was late for horsey riding lessons and on the way to the barn I changed my entire outfit - everything but the undies - while driving a pick up truck with a stick shift. The boots were the hardest to get on. I thought I was so

Now I pull over if I have to change clothes while in the car

HAHAHAHAHAAAA This thread is killing me, what with Amazing Multitasking Mascarawoman, goats in the front seat and Killer Millipedes massing outside for an invasion. And the noodles... I can barely eat with chopsticks using both hands and concentrating, let alone drive a car! And the porn guy!!

And I get amused if the stuffed toy dog in someones back window turns out to be a real Bichon Frise. Dang, I live in a boring country!

LOL, sounds pretty talented to me. And no lives were lost or insurance papers exchanged, so we'll give you a free pass on that one.

But don't try it again, y'hear? Think of the paperwork!

Believe me, I wish drivers in this country could be a little less.... interesting. My brother has been rear ended by a girl reaching for a french fry. Fortunately he wasn't hurt too bad. I had a friend in H.S. get hit in a crosswalk not far from school and thrown several feet because the driver failed to stop at a stoplight. She suffered multiple broken bones, lossed half her teeth, and still walks with a limp. Another friend from H.S. and her sister got rear-ended by a drunk driver while they were driving home and their car rolled into a ravine. My friend suffered from a concussion, cracked vertebrae in her neck and brain bruises that still affect her memory and the language center of her brain(uses the wrong tense of verbs, cannot always name an everyday object like an orange). Her sister is paraplegic(but she's wicked on her set of wheels). She was already an outspoken advocate against drunk driving(among other things) and this has only firmed her resolve to educate others. I even saw her on a local campaign ad(for Eugene, OR) in support of passing legislation that would confiscate the vehicles of offenders who were caught a multiple of times. Then there's yet another friend(she's kinda like my younger sis) who was hit in her car(side impact on the drivers side) by another driver who failed to yield to a light at an intersection. My friend was the fourth car through so it's not like she was gunning it as soon as the light changed which most people assumed when it happened because of her age+experience. It really couldn't have happened at a worse time too, because she had been diagnosed with breast cancer just a few weeks before(The youngest person to be diagnosed with it in Oregon according to her doc and with a family history of it w/no cancer survivors). I'm glad to say that she's in remission and doesn't seem to have any lasting effects from her accident either. And of course, there's DH(I almost forget this one. How?) who was hit by a driver that had his license suspended due to a medical condition. The driver passed out while driving and hit the car my mother-in-law was driving. Their car rolled and the gas tank leaked and caught on fire. DH's brother didn't make it. His sister suffered burns on over 90% of her body and passed away a mo. later(on my in-laws anniversary BTW). Besides the physical scars, DH is still dealing with physiological/emotional scars.

Sorry, that got kind of heavy. I'm in a bit of a mood right now.

No worries. I'm starting to notice more what the drivers around me are doing (besides driving ) and it's not reassuring.

    Sorry about your family's/friends experiences.

Ah, I've been meaning to look that up - thanks!

The cynic in me sez no, I don't think it will make all that much difference. I don't see a CHP officer pulling someone over simply because they're yapping on a cell phone. But hopefully I'm wrong.

    I read that they can't It's a secondary offense.

I was told that means they pull you over for driving while eating with chopsticks while watching porn on tv and then slap the "aaaaand you were talking without a hands-free device" ticket on ya'

Oh the things I have seen on my commute to Atlanta...

Of course the usual book/newspaper reading, lots of makeup application (even eyeliner, ouch), crocheting, brushing teeth, freaky dancing, physically fighting with passengers...

I once saw a grown professionally dressed woman sucking her thumb going down the interstate.

Sprocket's mom made me think of an incident when the traffic was particularly slow due to an accident. The guy in the lane beside me got out of his car and got something out of his trunk. As he was getting back into the car I saw that it was a porn magazine .

Oooh I'll have to see if I can remember some more good ones...
