    Real name: Leila
Where do you live? Atlanta, GA

Explanation of your handle: I like the Lord of the Rings series, so it seemed to fit. Plus it's the name of a mountain range, so it seemed sufficiently off-the-wall for my taste.

Explanation of your avatar: FedEx dinged up my bike frame, so I took pictures in case I wanted to report it. I realized when looking for an image that it was the only bike-related picture I could use.

    Age (general or specific): 19

    Occupation: college student

Favorite bike: I actually think unicycles look wicked cool.

What's in your stable? Raleigh M20. 8 years and counting with this bike, I think. Yep, it is time to get some new tires.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Probably during summer of 2003, riding down a hill near Veneta, Oregon. Speed: who knows?

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Err...

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Lie? Me?... This evening after dessert with a (male) friend at a local cafe, I left a note on a napkin for our waiter implying that my friend thought he was quite the dandy. To be fair, the waiter was rather cute.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Crossing the last stream just before reaching the plateau of the 11,000-foot Shandur Pass, highest polo ground in the world.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Any time I ride it like a scooter. Wheeee!

    Real name: Renee

Where do you live? Netherlands, originally living in Wisconsin, here in Europe for 3 years

Explanation of your handle: It's a play on "venus de milo" -- the avatar is a painting of Venus de Milo by Salvador Dali.

    Age: 43

    Occupation: IT Director

Favorite bike: My Trek 5200 WSD

    What's in your stable?
    Trek 1220
    Trek WSD 5200
    Giant Cypress
    Trek mtn Y-Bike
    Santana tandem
Looking for a new hardtail mtn bike...
I kinda have a problem with bikes and shoes...

Fastest speed on a road bike? Where? When? 43 mph, on a downhill where I used to live in Wisconsin....vroom!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? See below, one of my faves!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told? I don't lie (oops, was that it?!! )

Most memorable moment on my bike: Coming in at the end of the MS150...the crowd made you feel like you just rode the Tour de France! And most memorable "bad"...riding in the pouring rain on our tandem in the Door County century - yuk!

Most fun ever had on a bike: Learning how to mountain bike in Chequamagon in Wisconsin...it was fun and funny all at once.

Explanation of your handle: just one of the names my husband calls me.

Explanation of your avatar: photo from first real vacation in many years - Outer Banks. NC

Age (general or specific) Turned 50 on 2/22. Determined to make my 50's my best decade.

What's in your stable? 1980 (more or less) Schwinn Caliente 10 speed. Rust color, non-quick release tires, weighs a ton.

Fastest speed on a road bike? who knows. I ride for pleasure, not competition.

Most memorable moment on my bike: vacation in Outer Banks, NC. Hurricane Jeanne decided to go inland. Took bike for a ride up the bike path in Nags Head. Thought - boy, this really is easy riding at the shore. Turned around to go back to house and realized I had a very strong tailwind helping me along. It was now a very strong headwind, and it took me much longer to return.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Rails to Trails PA Bike Sojourn in 2004. NorthWestern PA sagged ride for 3 days. First time on bike for consistent 30-40 mile a day ride. Loved it. Want to do more.

What's in your stable? Raleigh M50.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Once when I was a kid I went down a big hill, hit a bump and flew off. It was probably pretty fast.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? None exist.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Not sure I've ever actually lied (except instinctively, as a child, to my parents). =)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Nothing memorable yet.

Most fun ever had on a bike? The neighborhood kids and I used to ride really close together in formation, pretending to be the Air Force Blue Eagles. (We wrecked a lot too).

    Welcome Susan & GenHawk

Welcome to the boards ladies! Pleased to meet ya both and hope you have as much fun "lurking" as the rest of us do!

and congrats on your "first post to a message board Ever" susan.....pretty scary wasn't it? I know my first I must've read the thing a dozen times to make sure it sounded right and had no typos! Geez....the innocence of our first posting!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Hi, been lurking for awhile, now I've decided to jump in!
    Real name: Carrie
    Where I live: Los Gatos,CA.
Inspiration for my handle? It just popped into my head!
Avatar? Not sure even what that is!
    Age: 36
    Occupation: SAHM
Favorite bike: I don't know yet. I need to ride a lot more.
What's in my stable: '92 Specialized Crossroads, soon to be forced into retirement, rusty old Schwinn racer, early sixties, the kind you have to back pedal to shift! It was fun when it worked! Now I don't have the heart to get rid of it.
My fastest speed on a road bike: I don't know, I go so slow now I should probably ride on the sidewalk.
Another picture of yourself and your ride: wait 'till I get my new ride!
What's the biggest lie I've ever told? I'm having a hard time with this one... so many lies to choose from... Must I choose?
Most memorable moment on a bike? Hmm... Trying to mountain bike on my mother's giant pink Schwinn cruiser? Accidentally running over my little friend when I was seven years old?
Most fun I've had on a bike-all the fun riding I used to do on that old Schwinn racer.

Explanation of your avatar: Don't have one yet.

What's in your stable? Felt 90

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Sunday (March 20, 2005) On country back roads near our home; I think I made it up to 16 mph at one point. (I am still a little shaky after taking a bad fall going around a curve too fast! ) I will work my way back into it, though. This ride was only my 4th time on the bike and the longest distance I have made on it so far (18 miles.)

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don't have very many pictures of myself - I hate having my picture taken

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I really can't remember! That doesn't mean I haven't told a "big one," though!

Most memorable moment on my bike: This is my first experience with a real bike (I had a three-speed when I was 12, if that counts.) Anyway, my most memorable moment so far would probably be the ride through the country side with my DH. It was quiet and peaceful.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Probably the same trip as above.

I've been registered since Nov but realized I never introduced myself. So here goes..

    Real name: Mindie

Where do you live? Salt Lake City, Utah

Explanation of your avatar: Have I loaded my avatar? I'll have to look. Its a viking ship-- I'm a proud Swede (well Swedish American)

Age (general or specific) quickly approaching 30

    Occupation: Business Analyst

Favorite bike: I'm new to all this so my bike is my favorite.

What's in your stable? I have just one bike... a red specialized allez sport named Wolfgang

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Hmmm...I haven't clocked myself yet given the fact that I have only ridden it on a local bike trail once, then the weather got bad again so its been the trainer ever since.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Not yet.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I can't think of any right now (perhaps thats the lie)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Well, I haven't had too many moments but so far it would definitely be taking it out for my first ride on a local trail here. I had only ridden a really heavy discount store stock mountain bike before and was shocked at how fast I felt on the road bike.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Learning to clip in and out. (again, newbie ). I'm taking a bike clinic this week and next week to teach me bike maintenance and then after that, well, who knows. The skies the limit.
