Well, I was just reading about other peoples' first century rides (wow!), and since everybody was so helpful with suggestions, concern, and suppport, here is my report!
It went well, and I finished in one piece, and did better than I thought. I did the Enchanted Circle tour in RedRiver, NM and my start to finish was 7:05 and ride time 6:22. I was pretty pleased with this. There was a yucky 4-5mile climb at mile 91, but that made the subsequent downhill to finish very rewarding. I am looking forward to another one, I really enjoyed it, except for the last couple miles of that climb, it was a little tortorous . . .
Thanks again to everybody who helped me with advice and concern, I really appreciated it!

Good for you. I have only been cycling for a month, and with my work schedule, it is hard to get out and ride... but I really hope to do a Century in the future.
CONGRATS!!
Zondian, way to go on a challenging century!
Hey Zondian,
Congrats- sorry I didn't write back on the PM I have been swamped with school, work, and just life.
Where was the 4-5 mile climb? I lived in Albuquerque for a couple months this summer(long story) and I am just curious.
I know the Albuquerque Century does the same thing, it finishes coming up tramway from the casino(it is a 4 mile climb, 3,000 ft) I used to do that climb in all my training rides, and I am not sure if I would want it at mile 91-hehe.
Glad you had such a good time!
Knew you could do it! Congrats.

Congratulations!! A tough century - makes it all the sweeter I imagine!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
You probably read my report of my first century on a tandem with Dh. I'm guessing had I been on my own bike, I might have done about the pace you did yours. Excellent job. Don't you just feel so good about your accomplishment. Every once in a while it hits me and I say out loud, "I did a century!"
I'm looking forward to my first on my single. Hopefully it will be as pleasant as my first on the tandem.
Congrats again!!!
Well Done Zon! Abq has a century they put on every year also that's pretty gruelling but fun. There should also be a half century coming up on the Bosque sometime in Oct I think.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Congratualtions. What a great job. Now get some rest and eat. I was hungry for days after I did my first one earlier this year. Pretty impressive climbing during your century! When's your next one?

Wow- your ride time is AMAZING!!! That was close to my time for my 1st century and it was mostly flat with a couple rollers (nothing even near the mountains you climbed).
I bow down to your mountain-goat climbing skills.
Congrats!!!! You should be VERY proud of your accomplishment. We all knew you could do it- and were here cheering you on the whole way! Way to go.
When's the next one?

Congrats!!! How did you become a mountain goat in 1 month? 6:22 is an awesome time with mountains. Will I see you out there next year when I try to attack this ride?

Glad to hear it went a-ok for you! We just wanted you to have fun, and you did, so there you go!
Are you hooked? You going to get yourself a road machine after all this, and become a TE regular?
