6am urge to clean drive train

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I think I've reached a new height (or as my GF would argue, depth) of cycling enthusiasm.

At 6am Thursday, I woke up before the alarm and decided to go clean my drivetrain. Strolled into work afterwards feeling fabulous! What a great life I get to have!

Lest you think I am truly virtuous, I was going to clean the bike anyway on Thursday evening--but only because I am taking it to the bike shop today for a brake adjustment and the mechanic who is usually on duty will scold me if the chain is really dirty!

Mine usually occurs at about 10:30pm on a Friday night. Sometimes it's bad that the BF lives 600 miles away, sometimes I think he's glad...

Silver and I spent hours disassembling our bikes and cleaning them last night. I took about 1.5 hours on mine...she took about 3 hours on hers

It was funny, when I was cleaning my cassette, she was convinced that I had black components...5 minutes later...they were silver

My family and group of cycling friends call me the chain cleaning nazi.

I'm always after everyone to clean their chains. Sometimes I'll even do it for them. There's nothing prettier than a clean chain and cassette.

And a clean bike rides better too! bikerHen

Hah! My pet neurosis is fixing badly adjusted bike helmets and backpacks. Badly adjusted climbing harnesses freak me out too, but I can usually refrain from groping total strangers around the butt so that their harness will sit better...

But all my sons friends are used to me swooping down on them to fix their bike helmets. They come in with their helmets way back on the back of their heads with loose straps, and go out again race-worthy...
