Here's the John Deere Racer in its new clothes. We rebuilt the rear hub today. When I get the d-cables tomorrow, we'll reinstall the drive train. Unfortunately, there have been some hard knocks already and it has a scratch on the head tube. Will doesn't seem to mind. That's the original badge there on the front.
I think it's an excellent first effort at painting something so complicated. He has yellow side walls on the new tires, yellow bar tape, etc. It's going to be quite a thing.

Wow -- that is SO cool.
“Hey, clearly failure doesn’t deter me!”
My Frankenstein bike is painted "John Deere" green also. Your's is definitely much nicer looking than mine.
I read the responses to Will and he said, "Everyone has a price. Make me an offer!"

Great paint job. Wow, haven't seen a 3-armed spider steel crankset in a long time. What kind of shape were the hubs and bb in?

"I rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a bike. It gives her a feeling of self-reliance and independence the moment she takes her seat; and away she goes, the picture of untrammelled womanhood."
Susan B. Anthony, 1896
The hubs and bb were in fine shape. Judging from the condition of the original saddle, this bike wasn't ridden very much, probably just stored away somewhere. It was all rusty, but not inside anywhere, and not through the paint on the frame. I removed the rust off the aluminum parts with oxalic acid, like I read on the geezer forum at bikeforums. Easy-peasy.
The saddle is hideous brown plastic. It did have foam grips on the bars, but other than that it was all original. I checked--no one wanted it in its original condition, but I do have someone I can sell the leftover parts to, like the reflectors and the suicide brakes.
Here's the only picture I thought to take of the original condition of the bike. See how shiny the parts are now compared to before!
