We watched Night at the Museum last. I was slightly disappointed. It just wasn't that funny and I like the stupid comedies.

Last movie we saw in the theatre was "Black Snake Moan". It is very interesting, definitely not kid friendly.

The best movie I have seen in a while is "Kenny". It's an Australian mocumentary about a plumber who manages a transportable toilet company. Other members of the cast include "Kenny's" real son and father.

This movie could be viewed as just a comedy, however if you delve deeper, you develop a respect for Kenny's professionalism, patience, humility and strength in trying circumstances. It also opens your eyes to how some people treat and view others who are providing services for their benefit. Thought provoking, but a great laugh.

My sense of humour may be warped!

We loved "THe World's fastest Indian" Anthony Hopkins is SO good. Our neighbors are from New Zealand and they recommended it. We spent an hour on Wikipedia & Google looking up info on the real guy.

We watched "The Queen" with Helen Mirren this weekend- it was vvery good. I didn't realize that it was only about the period after Diana's death, but it was still a good movie.

"Eragon" last night. A pretty predictable hero tale with lots of special effects. I usually prefer my fluff like that to be inside a book jacket. Jeremy Irons was good.

Anyone into home theater stuff? One of my husband's favorite movies- for evaulating equipment and such is "The Fifth Element"- Milla Jovovich, Bruce Willis, Gary Oldham.

    Kenny

This thread is allowing me to indulge in yet more vice I've already purchased Saint Ralph and am waiting for time to see it.

Now with Kenny, it looks like this must be not for general release in the States? I've been checking and can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows of a good source, could you let me know? I do have a region-free DVD player so it can be from any country. I think I need this movie!

    Thank you kindly

actually have two region-free dvd players in case the first one breaks. Yes, I am that obsessive.

Some of my favorite movies of late, have been

Stranger Than Fiction (with Will Farrell & Maggie Gylenhall) - and no, you don't see Will Farrells underwear in this movie
The Boondock Saints - a bit violent, but FUNNY. Every time I watch this (I ended up buying it) I catch more details. a great performance by Willem Defoe
The Matador - Pierce Brosnan unlike anything I've seen him do before
Dogtown & Z-Boys: if you are even the slightest bit interested in skateboarding, this is great. Be sure to get the documentary, not the fictional "Dogtown" based on the documentary.

My daughter and I really enjoyed Jodie Foster's "FlightPan" too...

We watched it together a few months ago (just before she moved out to try flatting...)

We watched Breach & Ghost rider this week. Breach- about espionage inside the FBI was good, well done. Ghost rider with Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes and the alway auditory-lucious Sam Elliot- was great. Of course it was silly,-a big special effects, comic book based movie, but it was fun & I like fluff and good guys versus bad guys stuff. Peter Fonda was really cool as the Devil. was a

I agree with the recomendation on "The Matador" an excellent movie .

And "Fifth Element" is not just Hub's husband's favorite movie, it's mine and all my friends as well. Know most scenes by heart. We used these passes to get into the parks for mountain biking and we call them "Multi-pass". Stupid movie but just can't stop watching!

Uncertain if anyone is into anime, but these are my favorite movies - all worth watching:

    Spirited Away
    Princess Mononoke
    Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigarde
    Howe's Moving Castle

and a new that just came out "Paprika". Awesome movie.

PS it's hard to provide a synopsis of an anime movie - they all involve nature, evil spirits a bleak future, children. If you want to try just one I suggest SPritied Away. Visually the most beautiful movie and it has all sorts of interesting characters.

    Thumbs down

We saw "Knocked Up" last weekend. Although there are a couple of funny lines - and I really like Catherine Heigel (sp) - can't recommend it 'cuz we just thought it was bad.

Got rained out of riding last night, so we went to see Shrek 3. I liked it, but it was definitely not the best of the Shrek movies.

    CC, check your PM

Thanks for the review of Knocked Up. I heard it was funny so that's good to know.

Spiderman 3 wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

Flightplan was a great movie but....DH is an aircraft mechanic and I work for an airline. It was so difficult to watch things that we knew couldn't be true (like airline procedure and structural things with the plane) but we enjoyed it nonetheless!!!

So let's see, I am out of date with movies but:

The Queen - I thought it was great!
Clerks 2 - Silly but funny
Casino Royale - couldn't get into it but maybe we were tired
In the Company of Men - great but disturbing
Snakes on a Plane - um....good in a silly way
Venture Bros Season 2 - always good
Pink Flamingos - classic John Waters.

oh and we rewatched Welcome to the Dollhouse which is really good too.
