Anybody know anything about carbolated vaseline?
A woman was asking me about the injury on my puppy's back, and she recommended carbolated vaseline for it. It's a 2 month old reaction to vaccine - a big scab/scar that isn't healing.
The only thing I can find out about it on-line is from the (only?) company that makes it.

Dogs, too. I wouldn't chance it.
It's also toxic to dogs (0.48g/kg orally). According to Google, 1% phenol will cause burns. That stuff is 1.5% Combined with the other stuff in there, that would sting at the very least!
You could probably get the same effect with a pet-friendly antibacterial ointment, really.

My dog had a lick granuloma on his leg that we treated successfully with Neosporin and occlusive bandaging. It seemed like it took forever, but it did heal, which lick granulomas often don't.

What is that? A NOEL, LOEL, LD50? I found; in rats and mice, a chronic NOEL of 1.5 mg/kg/day.
0.48g/kg I guess would be an acute NOEL or LOEL = nothing to worry about. (Tari weighs 5 kg = 7.5 g, the entire tin is 124g, 1%= 1.24 g, so she could safely eat the whole thing).
High concentrations of phenol are used as a chemical peel. Up to 25% of it is absorbed after 1 hr. Again, not enough of a dose will be absorbed to worry about the phenol.
As a risk assessor, I'm thrilled when I see g as the unit instead of ug or ng, my job is done before it started and I can go home.

In internet group discussions, I like to err on the conservative side. You don't know who is reading or how they will interpret what they read. Also, in veterinary medicine, the patient may lick himself and ingest things that a human (presumably) wouldn't.
Slightly off-topic but interesting article about how a doctor almost killed her dog by giving him ibuprofen.

Yeah, I remember reading the word "ostensibly" in your blog once - I don't think I've ever heard a non-RA person use that word. Good word.
I will put a sweater over the area so she can't lick it.
The aloe/Vit E mix I've been using smelled like Christmas candles, very nice. This stuff smells like a car fart.
