Actually, I didn't use the bike much, so I sold it to knottedyet. She, in turn, gave it to her mother. The few times I did ride it, it shifted fine. It was easy to adjust right out of the box as you only had to line up the yellow lines. I didn't have it long enough to really see how it worked after many miles.
If it's like the old Sturmey Archer 3-speed hubs, it will run fine for decades. A couple drops of oil in the oil port every month is all they needed.
Oil is good, grease is better.
