What: Ride of Silence (www.rideofsilence.org)
Where: Olney, MD
Time: 7:00 PM - ?

Vince Cooke is organizing a Maryland section of the worldwide Ride of Silence.

Vince is looking for some help putting on this ride. He is anticipating about 100 riders and needs help getting the word out via social media and would love to have some volunteers help him contact local bike clubs, bike shops, newspapers, radio, etc... Additional needs include contacting the local police for escort and tour permits and even getting black armbands ready for all the riders to wear. Remember that volunteering does not keep you from riding since the ride itself is not supported and is only 10 miles long.

The Ride of Silence is an annual worldwide ride that began 10 years ago. The purpose of the ride is:
• To HONOR those who have been injured or killed while riding
• To RAISE AWARENESS that we are out there on the roads
• To ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD

The ride is meant to look very much like a funeral procession. The ride will have a police escort, we will ride single file, the ride will be 10 miles winding through Olney and will average 10 mph, and the ride of course will be ridden in silence. The route has been chosen to minimize hills and maximize our exposure to allow riders from all levels to participate and be seen by the community.
