    Helmet fit

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I just bought a Specialized S3 helmet. For years I've worn Giro Pneumos, but they don't make them anymore and the Atmos doesn't fit right. More importantly, I want a visor on the helmet to help keep the sun off my face, and Giro doesn't provide them anymore on their more vented helmets.

Anyway, I'm kinda not sure if the Specialized fits me right. It seems awfully high on my head. What do you alls think?

It's a size small -- the medium was too big.

The Pneumo is rounder, so maybe that's why the S3 looks wrong to me. But the Pneumo also comes about 1/4 inch closer to the top of my ear at the side.

    Thanks!!

It does look kind of high. I'd almost say your hair is pushing it forward, but it doesn't look at all low on your forehead. It just looks like there's not enough "coverage".

Sorry the Atmos doesn't work. I've gone from pneumo to Atmos with no issues.

Maybe go to the LBS and just try a bunch on to see how they fit? Maybe that's how it is supposed to be.

I think the helmet might be small for you. It's too high, too little coverage on your forehead and the back of your head.

I have the Bell Sweep, although I no longer use the visor and have the plugs shown in the pictures in the linked page.

Thanks very much for the feedback. I will return the S3.

I will move on to Bell -- I can order the Volt from my LBS or REI, and can easily return it to the store if it doesn't fit right. Plus both have loyalty programs so I'll earn a future discount with the purchase. In fact I might be due for 10% off a purchase at the LBS, I'll have to check.

I remember Muirenn mentioning some Rudy Project helmets in my other recent helmet thread, but there are no stores around here that carry them so a return would be more expensive if it doesn't fit. So I'll try Bell first.

This is harder than it should be...

BTW I checked my old Pneumo, and there is a one-finger space between my eyebrow and the helmet. I will use that test with any other helmets I try.
