I got to ride the roadie today. Only her 4th outing. We have a few more warm days forecast. I plan to treat each one as a gift, before we return to our regularly scheduled winter.

    Finally!

    First commute since 25 January.
I thought - since I didn't have Noah to take care of in the morning , I'd be able to get out bright and early. But that didn't happen. It seemed like my whole system fell apart. And then the zipper on my winter jacket busted. I ended up with one delay after another, and I got out LATER than I normally would have. I still had to dodge ice, snow, and tree branches along my route. The latter, I stopped to heave down the hill and into the woods. That should do wonders for my bad back. My chiropractor will be SO pleased.

yeah- that was not such a good ride home...

I was at a stop light, it turned green, I proceeded through the light when a car in the close lane was coming at me at warp speed and blatantly ran the RED LIGHT! He came within about 2 feet of taking me out. I fell, the bike got bruised, and I have some road rash. I'm glad I was wearing capris instead of shorts.
I jumped back on my bike so quickly and sped away that nobody had a chance to see if I was ok. I tried riding the rest of the way home, but had a mental breakdown and called the hubby crying to come get me.

Gonna have to try again tomorrow. Hopefully someone doesn't try to kill me tomorrow.

Oh No! Stupid driver! Hope you and bike are okay. It's okay if you need to take a recovery day. Your mojo will come back.

Take some Ibuprofen. You might hurt later even if you think you're okay.

I kept my eyes on the road, ignoring him. No idea what he said, but he looked like a jerk. I felt sorry for the girl passenger, and wanted to tell her she could do better. They then slowed in front of me, probably wanting a reaction, which they didn't get. Ignoring them worked, and they sped off.
This is funny...the other day I stopped in the shop, and my friend who works there told me he saw me last week on the road where this incident happened. In hindsight, I think it was him who yelled out the window, probably saying hi. So much for being a jerk! He's about as far from a jerk as can be. Shame on me for thinking the worst in people.

I'm going back to my old game of thinking that the things yelled out of windows (which can't be understood) are words of encouragement. Sometimes, it's true. Why not just assume the people are good?

This is my approach - it is better for my blood pressure and nerves if I assume that shouted comments that I can't understand are good rather than bad

When you're commuting to work at 6 a.m. and you almost yell, "On your left!" to a raccoon (because you thought it was a runner), you need more coffee before you get on the bike.

I thought it was wearing reflective gear. Thus the reason why I thought it was a runner. But one of my nature-loving friends explained to me that "it must have been the tapetum lucidum, the reflective layer of tissue in the racoon's eyes that helps him or her see in the dark." Yes, that explains it. I still think I need more coffee before I get on the bike that early.
