We're paying $4.50 Canadian for a gallon of gas right now.

I'd like to find gas for $3 a gallon! Last night the local news showed a Shell station that was selling gas for $3.98!

If it weren't for the kiddo just learning to ride, hauling the bassoon, the after-school carpool, etc, I think we'd be doing a lot more by bike.

I need to start bike commuting too - it cost $48 yesterday to fill up the Suby!

Well we managed to commute 4 days out of 5 this week. The little guy did the ride home twice out of the 4 days. One day he had a cross country run after school so we didn't make him ride home. It's a 455' climb home so he's doing well!

On top of the gas savings, I find that when I have my bike at work, I tend to go the long way home and end up with a 20-40k ride most days. It's doing wonders for my mileage. This week I burned over 3000 calories riding and running. And I saved gas too!

    2(Pi R) In the Sky

$350 gets me a Kona Smoke
$400 gets me an Xtracycle kit
$100 gets me a few extras

So, for around $850 I'd have a commutermobile that would haul SKnot (on the flats) AND his bassoon AND a bag of dog food.

At about $50 per tank, and at about one tank a week, that's about 4 1/2 months of driving to pay off the Xtracycle.

    Hmmmmmm...

I'm way behind on my vow to bike to work twice a week and with the ride looming in June I should step it up and get the extra saddle time.

This is my plan on BTW day to maximize SWAG.

Standard route to South Hayward BART pick up SWAG
Swing over to Hayward BART to get more, take train to Macarthur exit train and more SWAG
ride to Piedmont Ave (stop at Peets)
Up and over Linda down to Grand and down to a LBS which is also a refresher station
    then down to City Hall.

I'll miss the pancakes but that's my plan.

This $200 trailer does 100 lbs. http://www.burley.com/products/flatbed.html The doggie trailer only does 50 lbs. My dog weighs more than that. I could put him in his crate and strap the crate to the flatbed, et voila! One panicked dog on a wide trailer taking up lots of room on the side of the road.

But I'd get some juicy muscles from hauling him to the dog park!

My commuter could tow a trailer. But if SKnot is using my commuter, I'd need to get a new commuter for myself, right? So, buy another bike, right? I like where this is leading...

This gas-reduced lifestyle could cost me some bucks!

(Nobody's driving home afterwards, I hope?)
Or maybe have it turn into a pajama party so everyone stays safe....

Yeah, we could cut out pictures of the women and clothes in the Terry catalogs and make paper dolls out of them, trying the different bike apparel on them!! Party favors would include teeny Easter baskets with peeps and Sport Beans. Watch movies with bikes in them....El Postal, etc...

i'm all about the TE pajama party, but don't we do that all the time anyhow, or is it just me in my jammies?

no need to worry, i have responsible friends who get cabs or don't drink at all. its so nice not to worry about my friends anymore with drinking and driving.

Just got in from a bike ride (an errand, not a big ride) and am now dyeing my hair. Isn't it traditional that *someone* at a jammie party has to be messing with her hair and have a towel wrapped around her head?

do I get extra points cuz my head is covered in green goop that smells and looks like rotted spinach?

I've busted into a bottle of red wine (my reward for putting up with green goop for 2 hrs), so lets get out the glasses and toast our bikes!!
