Have you heard of this guy? He traded one red paper clip for a house.

He posted a pic of his paper clip on his blog a year ago and asked someone to trade him for something "bigger and better". He kept trading and trading until he got a house (albeit in a tiny town in Saskatchewan...)

I had a great time mountain biking in Tahoe, and learned when going up a steep hill if you don't sit just right your bike will tip over backward. I know now and have the bruise to prove it. Saw lots and lots of road bikes but no MP. Now I am back home in the lovely 110 degree heat watching wild fires out my window. Cheers, Jones.
Glad you had fun in Tahoe!! We were in Markleeville most of the time, but while in Tahoe discovered a great hole in the wall BBQ place. And a really good Indian restaurant that serves a great breakfast. Best oatmeal EVER ("Swedish"). And they had Indian omlettes and other fare in addition to typical US stuff.

    Has FishJr recovered??

I think we are getting a gecko. Em's babysitter is going to college and needs someone to take her gecko. Em really lobbied for this one - worked on her argument to present to convince DH that she should get the gecko quite thoroughly. So we get a gecko. I don't even know what it looks like. She's working on names.

Geckos (Geckoes? Gecko's?) are interesting, but not exactly cuddly which I happen to think is an important factor in choosing a pet. My daugher has one (named Jade). Make sure you feed it meal worms instead of crickets. The crickets make too much noise and they sometimes get out and you have to track them down so you can sleep...

The cat really likes the gecko though. She can sit by the cage and watch it for hours...

Yeah - knowing that it wouldn't need crickets was a prerequsite before I would get on the gecko bandwagon.

You will have to let me know the name of the restaurants especially the Indian. My DH is English and loves Indian. We go back for the last 3 weeks of August and it is always good to have a new place to go grub.
In other news the wind shifted, I can no longer see the fire but I can smell it. Yuck.

I don't remember the name of the Indian place, but it is between the main part of SLT (Stateline) and the big park area - before the "Y". It is in a shopping center next to a Long's right adjacent to Heidi's breakfast restaurant. On the lake side of the main street there. Heidi's is a pretty popular place, so you should be able to find that place and then go just to the other side of the Long's.

Indian coffee is super good. Sweet, made with instant coffee but steamed and really good!!!

    Pretty sure this is it:

    Nikki's Chaat Cafe
    3469 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
    South Lake Tahoe, CA

The BBQ place was right across the street from the gondolas at Heavenly. Truly a hole in the wall next to a bunch of cheesy shops. But SUPER good.

Dear parents sitting around ignoring your spawn at the hotel pool:

Please remember that there are other hotel guests who are here on business and must get up at 4 am Central even though our bodies are still on Pacific time. Do you suppose you could ask your children to refrain from shouting and screaming like aliens? If you all want to behave like wild animals there is a wildlife museum down the way at the Bass Pro Shop. I'd be happy to hang up all of you down there in the hall of heads.

Thanks for asking! She's doing great! Mr. Fish said she ate lunch really slowly and then took a nap. She almost never takes a nap these days. Her arm that got 2 shots is a bit red and she says it's sore. Other than that - she's acting and feeling normal. She's always done well with shots. No reaction really. She was back to normal and doing her interpretive dance to music in commercials tonight and fishing for her brother (with a rope tied to a glittery baton). She's nuts!

Geckos are COOL! I used to run the animal care facility when I was a grad student - we had a Tokay Gecko (and big old one) that would eat pinkies (baby mice). Be sure to let us know what kind it is. A definite plus to not have to feed it crickets. I always wanted a gecko. I had anoles, but never a gecko of my own.

Thanks for the info MP. The BBQ place has been there a long time, it was there twenty years ago when I lived in Tahoe, I know exactly were it is. The Indian restaurant though, sounds intriguing.
Fish, when my daughters were still in there shot getting years, I always warned them a day or two in advanced and again on the way to the Dr.s., I told them it felt like a sharp pinch and let them pinch me to practice. The girls always did well with warning, on the one occasion I forgot to warn my eldest daughter it was a very loud Dr.s appointment. No matter, watching some one hurt your children is never easy and I used to always get teary eyed when the shots came. I am a wimp, a very talkative wimp today but a wimp all the same.
    I hope FJ has recovered.

What? You haven't heard this term? Wasn't your biker bar so carefully decorated? I'm sure Bass Pro Shop had taxidermy services.
