got in a decent swim yesterday

not a great swim, but I only had 30 minutes. Unfortunately, last night I felt like I would gladly chop my arm off at the shoulder with a machete. I thought this issue was behind me, but apparently there is still something going on in there. Three aleve and a good night sleep and I feel okay this morning, which is an improvement - it used to be when thing started spasming it would go on for days until I got desperate and resorted to narcotics (prescribed).

Its hard to be a triathlete with a bum right shoulder and a broken left clavical.

sorry for the whine, I just needed to get it out somewhere.

Ummmm....broken clavicle? Yes, that will impede you as a triathlete. Recent injuries? Have you gotten medical attention? I'm sure you have, but...worrying about you down south in the big city. L.

    Lise,

Yes, i have seen a doctor - many times. I broke it two years ago in a ski crash. For some reason it just didn't knit. No explanation why. My doc and I have discussed pinning it, which he is not in favor of unless it causes continued problems. I disagree, or rather, I feel there are continued problems, some pain related, some activity related, and yes, damnit, some vanity related. Now my doc is not on my insurance, so i have to find somebody new. The shoulder problem goes back to my swimming career, and has been operated on once already. I probably just need to get back to pt for this latest issue.

    Thanks for worrying about me.

Thanks for reassuring me! Sorry to hear about the long-standing problems. Frustrating. Glad to hear you got in a good swim. Do you swim in the lake (later in the season)? When do you think it would be reasonable to start? I guess I just need to check the water temp on line, get out my brand new wet suit, and go for it! L.

After everything you have had done to your shoulder... I am shocked you can swim at all!

30 minutes on a bum shoulder is good work!

Are you training for sprints? Or longer distance tri's? If it's just sprints, and you use to be a swimmer (?), then you can probably forgoe too many swim workouts and still do decent in a race.

    Best of luck!

    KSH,

I am not doing a whole lot of swimming since you are right, a sprint swim is not a big issue. I am doing an oly at the end of summer so want to make sure my upper body is ready for that. My biggest problem has actually been slowing down - my natural pace is faster than my current level of fitness can support over a long distance. Once I slow down I can do the spint distance. It has been kind of bizarre training to go slow.

    Thanks

    Ah. OK.

Sounds like you have a "plan" worked out! Now you just need to slow down in the water a bit... eh?

    Good luck to you!
