Wow, that's fabulous! 3.5 miles is what I'm up to without even having any foot problems, so I am in awe that you are doing that after surgery!

Emily,
Running is about patience. Of all of the sports that I participate in, it is the one that has taken the longest to build long term endurance. Probably because it is weight bearing.
For example, when I was cleared to ride at 5 weeks, the next day we went to one of the parks where we mt. bike and rode hard for 2 hours ride time. I felt a small decline in my upper end anaerobic fitness, climbing and shorts bursts, but otherwise fine. Not even sore.
I cannot fathom doing that after the same time away from running. It would be a disaster in the making.
So being "up to" 3.5 is excellent. I think you are making great progress. Slow and steady wins the race with running.
I am truly happy for you. Doesn't it feel good (no GREAT) when you finally can see the end of the light at the tunnel and it is not the train coming.![]()
Thanks RnR! I'm quite pleased to be there as I completely agree -- running is much more challenging for me too than cycling.
Unfortunately, after making steady progress all month, I woke up feeling sick today -- some sort of cold, I suppose, but that may kill my planned runs for this week. I'm bummed...haven't been sick in 2 years and am a terrible patient. I hate being unable to do my favorite activities!

I am so happy for you! I wish you the best with your runs.
I am sorry you are sick, but hey, at least your are there where it is warm and sunny instead of here, where we are waiting for the world to end in the form of.....THE WORST SNOWSTORM IN TH HISTORY OF THE WORLD......sorry, sarcasm. You would think the zombie apocalypse had started the way people are acting.
It does sound like it's gonna be bad, though. I hope everyone in its path will stay safe, and yes, I feel VERY thankful. We are having a cold front here, but that means upper 50s for lows, very cold for here, but highs in the 70s. Very lucky! I do have a cold, though, so tomorrow's run is off (sigh) as was today's yoga (sigh again). Hopefully by Friday's run I'll be back but will take it very easy.

If you averaged 85 mpw and the last 3 were in mid to high 90s, that means your first 4 were in the mid 70s range.
Does anyone think that may be too fast of a ramp up in mileage?
