Is anyone interested in joining me for a ride on the C&O this Saturday, 11/3? If so let's discuss mileage and distance. I'm thinking of a day ride, 35 miles at the most or 14 miles at the least. We can meet up, ride to a nearby town, have lunch then ride back to our cars.

You'll have to come this way sometime in 2013. There are lots of wonderful trails to ride in the VA, WVA, DC, MD area.

I just rode GAPCO from McKeesport to Harper's Ferry last week. Had to abandon the last leg on Sunday because of the storm.
I might be up for it. I'll need to check out my mountain bike since I haven't ridden it in almost a year. Also I don't have a lock, but I guess I would need one for lunch.
Of course the towpath might be flooded -- they are expecting the Potomac to flood this week after storm.

We'll check into trail conditions before Saturday or Sunday. I have a lock if we need to use one. The Weather looks promising for the weekend, sunny and 60 degrees for the high.

I did the GAP from McKeesport, PA to Cumberland, MD and the C&O from Cumberland, MD to Harper's Ferry, WV. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish the last 40 miles from Harper's Ferry to Great Falls, MD. I've done the 15 miles from Georgetown, DC to Great Falls before. I imagine it will be pretty messy for the next few weeks at least.
Kathy, I really would like to do a ride on the towpath but it looks like this weekend is not good for me after all. Maybe we could do it next weekend, if the weather looks good?

That's fine with me. It might be best to wait out the recovery from Sandy just in case some trees decide to fall due to wet ground.
Let's keep in touch about riding the following weekend, 11/10 or 11/11.

Shame I dont' check in here more often... I rode the newly opened section of the C&O (for the second time) on the 11th. They did a damned fine job of rebuilding and it's gorgeous up thataways.
"How about if we all just try to follow these very simple rules of the road? Drive like the person ahead on the bike is your son/daughter. Ride like the cars are ambulances carrying your loved ones to the emergency room. This should cover everything, unless you are a complete sociopath."
