When did I begin using bungies? Hmmm...not when I was a kid because they were not around then but certainly as an older teen and in my 20's they became common and being the fishing-boating-camping sort I used them for darn near everything. I was introduced into the racheting strap thingys a bit later as trailer tie down straps.

I still use bungies at times but I do prefer straps with snap closures like on a life vest for tying down small things because I had a bungie come loose last summer and get tangled in my wheel, I was lucky it didn't do damage or cause an accident. I also had a near miss across my face and near my eye so I've shied away from them a bit.
