SSM Aspide Glamour - different models??

    To disable ads, please log-in.

My quest for a new saddle continues. I'd actually like to try the Bontrager Affinity, but since its in-store date has been pushed from "late August" to September 20, I figure I'll use the next few weeks to try a Selle San Marco Aspide Glamour. But looking at various web sites, there seems to be different versions of this saddle and I'm not sure if it's just that this year's model looks a little different from previous years or if there are true differences in shape, padding, whatever.

Does anyone know what's the deal?

This is from the SSM site. I don't see any for sale online that look like this.

Bicyclebuys.com has this one, which I think might be the same except for cosmetic differences(?):

This ebay seller has one that costs less but it's called an "FX" -- what does FX mean?

(I can see that there is definitely a different model for triathletes, which has a different cover from the ones in these links. I'm looking for one for long road rides.)

Thanks as always for any input you alls can give!!!

Hmm, just found this thread. I guess this answers the FX question, although I'm still not sure which one I want.

    Your timing is excellent

I just got mine in from wekeepyoucycling.com and it's the newer version. I had a glamour arrowhead K with the dimpled leather and cutout, loved it for a long time. I just ordered a new one after not liking the new avatar I tried. It is really nice. It's not the same model in the website but just as nice. Smooth leather with red/white stripes. Just rode it around the hood with denim shorts and flip-flops on, already like it better that the avatar. I"ll take a photo and attach.

Your first link is to the newest (3rd by my count) generation of the basic Aspide Glamour. The second link is to the 1st generation of the basic saddle. I had the first generation and now have the second generation on my bike. But the new model is sure purty. Hmm...

The Arrowhead, Arrowhead K and FX are all slightly different models, but they all have the basic T shape. I wish the FX came in white.

    Hi,
I have no clue what Glamour and FX mean - or how to tell if the seat is 1st, 2nd or whatever generation - but I use the SSM aspide on all my bikes and love it. Mine is the naked carbon version, the older model used to say 'composite' on the side, the newest one says 'superleggera' but they are the same saddle. The decals and colors have changed a bit over the last few years.
It is the lightest and most comfortable saddle I ever owned, I would highly recommend it if the size fits you. I think it's like 120-something mm wide and 280 long or something like that. Awesome seat!
    Hope this helps

"Glamour" just means that it's a women's saddle...and FX is a certain version of it. Obviously, if your saddle is a 120mm width, then it has to be a men's saddle. I'm guessing that most gals here (myself included) would likely not be able to ride such a narrow saddle.

Is this one better than the SI Max Flite? I have the Max Flite now and sometimes it's the most wonderful saddle, but other times (and most recently), it's like sitting on a knife because something's going on with the cut out. Maybe it's too big... I don't know.

It's completely different than the max flite. Make sure you get measured, the the max flite was too narrow for me , like I was always riding on my crotch. This SSM is really minimal, the saddle has padding but the shape is what I like. It really supports your seat bones (which are now a little sore, I am on vacation and riding every day). This saddle also flexes, the seat bone pads, are really bendable, which I like. If you like the max flite and are not sure, there's the SI diva, which I till might try or the lady SLR. These two are wider than the max. You might be getting caught in the cutout if it's too wide. If you need narrower and like that type, go with a men's SI SLR. I have really tried them all. I feel your pain, trust me!
Go find an LBS and sit on the butt-o-meter.
