PI tri shorts fit -- older models vs. new?

I recently found an awesome deal on a pair of PI tri shorts on eBay. They are last year's model with the rubber leg grippers, as opposed to the silicone ones PI appears to have switched to in the past year.

Here's the weird part...they are a size M. EVERY other PI bottom I have is a M and fits great (2 pairs cycling shorts, 2 pairs compression running shorts, 1 pair running knickers), but these babies are SNUG! Uncomfortably so...I can't imagine running or biking in them. Hubby even said they looked way too small. Are all tri shorts like this? I do have one older pair of PI running compression shorts that also have the rubber grippers and they are a hair snugger than the 2 more recent versions of the short (though they are nowhere near as snug as these tri shorts I just got). So I wonder if PI simply relaxed their fit a bit in the last year or so.

I have an older pair of PI tri shorts (size M)...couldn't even fathom a guess as to what model year they are...but I got them on the clearance rack at Performance Bike sometime back in early 2008. They have a drawstring and are a shorter length (which I don't really care for, but the price was right) but compared to all of my other PI cycling-specific shorts (also size M), they do seem a tad bit snugger. I tend to only wear them on short rides, due to the extreme "sausage leg" effect I get from wearing them. Not attractive at all.
