Yay, I think I found the short for my weird booty! (with model-year chamois question)

I have tried the PI Sugar and Shebeest SSS short and had similar issues with both--my sit bones are too far forward to be covered by the chamois and no amount of adjusting of the short would remedy that. Plus the PI chamois is really bulky and a lot of it ended up nearly cushioning my tail-bone...not really where I need it.

I decided to try a pair of Sugoi Evolution Shorty shorts and really love the chamois fit--my sit bones are cushioned!

The only thing I am wondering about is the edge of the chamois...it rubs the outside of my butt cheeks a little bit. I'm hoping this will soften some with wear and washing and I can always try applying some Body Glide or Chamois Butter there to protect my skin some.

The chamois on this short is the older red/gold chamois, rather than the green one that is in the newer version. Can anyone attest to any difference between these chamois models in terms of fit or edging? I'd like to get a second pair at some point, but am not sure if I should stick with the same chamois style or go with the newer one.

I love that red and orange chamois! And yes, mine did soften up. Body Glide helped. Unfortunately, the green one is way too much chamois for my girly parts. I haven't been able to wear the newer Sugoi styles.

I would try them, but don't assume that they'll fit/feel the same as the older style.

ETA: The chamois in the Terry Bella shorts hits me at about the same place as the red and orange Sugoi chamois, albeit a little thinner.

Interesting...I might have to try the new style, just for comparison. If I don't like it I can make sure to stock up on the older one.

I just got a pair of Sugoi SubZero tights for running this week, too...I like their stuff.

+1 on the Sugoi SubZero tights...although I think mine are the Sub-Zero Zap tights, and they're great for cold weather cycling.

Yep, my tights are the zaps, too, with the ankle zips and reflective stuff. I love them...I just hope the inner thigh seams can withstand my monster legs. Even when I was like a size 2 in HS I wore through that area on my jeans first, so I can't even blame being 20#s overweight. Last year I blew through those seams on a pair of Mizuno tights in about 2 months time.

I found the older shorts from RealCyclist.com, I believe. I didn't actually know which version they were sending, but that's what I got and the price was decent either way. I think there may be some sellers with the older ones on eBay, too.

I picked up a pair with the newer chamois, too, and think I prefer them. The seams on the red/gold chamois rubbed me a little raw on one side, but no discomforts with the newer green chamois. It is a lot denser than the original version, I must say.

Oooh...I wonder if the green chamois in the Evolution short is the same green chamois that is in my pair of RS shorts? If so, then yes I agree...that green chamois is nice, and those RS shorts have quickly become a favorite of mine...especially on 100-milers.

It's the RC Pro chamois, I believe. I will say that I liked how the older chamois fit me, a bit more...it seemed to cover my sit bones better. But that chafing issue with the seams is kind of a deal breaker--I don't like a bloody behind after a ride.

Hm, I might have to try the new ones out. I got the ones with the red and orange chamois (like you, had no idea what I was getting), and I like it. I haven't worn them out on a ride yet, since my bike is 200 miles away, but we'll see.

Meh...I ended up not liking the green chamois all that much more than the red/gold in the end. I found that I liked it for my butt, better, but up front it ended up being "too much chamois," as Becky had found. It wasn't so bad when I wasn't riding more than an hour, but beyond that I started needing to get out of the saddle more and more to bring back blood flow and reduce the pain.

I also found that there is a seam that kind of runs along the underside of the butt/thigh and contacts with the edge of my saddle, digging it into my cheeks a bit. That led to some hot spots that I'm sure could get potentially very bad on long rides.

In the meantime I sucked it up and spent more $$ on a pair of a new PI style, the Symphony Cut short. 6" inseam, better seam placement, fewer seams, a chamois that fits me like a dream (wow, my girly bits didn't complain a bit last night! The crotch area of this chamois is much narrower and less bulky), awesome elastic-free front panel, and a nice little stretchy pocket on the right rear--perfect for a house key, or gel, or lip balm.
