Lost my Ipod on this morning's ride

I had just enough time to do a 10 mile ride before teaching a fiddle lesson. There I was, on the downhill cruise home, listening to some nice tunes and suddenly the music stopped, I felt a little jerk on on the headphones and my Ipod was missing. Apparently, it jumped right out of my jacket pocket. I spent 25 minutes searching, got help from my DH and his running partner who stopped on their way to their run, and we never found it. How far can an Ipod bounce? It wasn't in the road, and it's desert, so it's not like the ground is covered with vegetation that would hide it.

I was 20 minutes later for my fiddle student, who fortunately is a very relaxed and patient guy.....I think I'm going to go look again.

    Okay, I'm done whining now.

Aw, that stinks. Hope you find it.

I'm so lucky to have my DH... he has a finder's heart. Any time I lose something like that, he can find it right away!

Oh, that sucks. Especially if you didn't have a back-up of the music on it. If you do need to buy a new one I can recommend the Zen Stone Plus for riding - small, lightweight, hard to destroy and cheap enough that losing it isn't too bad.

No luck- another 20 minutes search, with extra help from a very sweet older gentleman who was walking on the pedestrian trail next to the road.

It was very mysterious disappearing act.
The DH is renowned for his finding abilities, but alas, they failed him this time.

Fortunately, I have cds and/or all the music on my computer, and we have a 2nd Ipod so I'm covered. I mistakenly thought it would be better to put the small one right into a pocket instead of strapping the big one onto my arm.

In the desert? Remote area? Aliens grabbed it.

How about borrowing a metal detector?

Mystery solved.. DH returned to the scene and found it hiding in plain sight in the middle of the road.. but- unfortunately- completely squashed.

    Oh well...

Well that is good news/bad news. That is great though that he found it for you. One of my biggest pet peeves is not being able to find something. That's a bummer that it was smashed.

Oh no! I'm glad it was found, but not at the state it was found in.

I found my ipod this morning....in the wash.

After the wash cycle was complete.

Oh, man, bad week for iPods.

Hope you both get new and better ones for the holidays!

I just ordered my son a new iPod for Christmas since his also just went through the wash. I had engraved on it: "Dry Clean Only"

My son washed his nano AND dried it, and it eventually started working again.

Most electronics will survive water, provided current's not flowing at the time. The important thing is to let it dry. Bone dry. Take the battery out and let it air. Depending on the complexity of the circuitry, this could take a couple days. If you can safely remove the cover of the item, do it.

I'm not sure how corrosive washing detergent is, but it may be that exposure to this will eventually degrade the electronics (over a period of months/years). In any case, drying the item out will give you an opportunity to retrieve any data from it.

Yeah, kind of think that it is dead. I took it apart to let it dry but it still remains silent. It is very, very possible that it was playing when I shoved it in there. Maybe "Tiny Bubbles?"
