Giro to start in USA?
Word is Mayor Fenty wants the Giro d'Italia to start in Washington DC. Am I the only person who thinks this is a crazy idea?
http://www.velonews.com/article/9982...t-for-the-giro Not that it wouldn't be fun to watch, but a trans-atlantic transfer would be awfully hard on the riders. And they'd have to have an early day off in order to get the race back to Italy. |

Crazy. Deadly. The long flights would be awful. I can't imagine racers taking a "rest" day seated on a trans-Atlantic flight ...
![]() Let's have our own Giro here; Tour de California, Giro de the Rockies, Vuelta de Texas Hill Country .... let's boost American Cycling and hey, how about featuring the women's teams while we're at it. ![]()

I think it'd be cool to have a big race like that start in the States but in reality it's a terrible idea. It would be a logistical nightmare. If the US wants a big cycling a event then we need to organize one ourselves or make the existing events (Tour of California, Georgia, Missouri, etc) more prestigious.

+1. Then maybe someday a mayor in Europe will ask "what if we could have the women's division of the Tour de Georgia start in Nice, France?"
