    rear view mirror

Any advise on a good lightweight rear view mirror for a high end road bike? My friend is just recovering from facial stitches from a nasty accident and I decided it's time to get a mirror on my bars!

There are lots of threads already thoroughly covering various mirror options.
Please see this recent mirror thread, which has links to many other mirror threads:
    http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showt...ghlight=mirror

It's easy to use TE's SEARCH function to find threads about subjects that come up often. All I did was go to the top of the page to "Search" and checks 'threads' and type in "rear view mirror"....voila!

It's a personal preference thing -- mine's on my helmet. Others' have 'em on handlebars or glasses. Since I ride 5 diferent bikes, the helmet option is cheaper

Another mirror choice, for what it's worth: The Cycle Star bar end mirror by Busch & Muller:

I just installed it on my new road bike handlebar and love it. No shake; small enough to be unobtrusive; big enough to be useful.

+1 on CycleAware if you're going for the handlebar mount.

I personally wear my mirror clipped to my glasses... I like and currently use the "Take-A-Look" and like it because of light weight, ease to clip on and off, and the nice wide field of view that it gives you. CycleAware has a similar version with a plastic frame, where the long axis of the mirror is vertical rather than horizontal like the Take-A-Look. I'll probably give that one a try ths summer sometime.

They also have this absolutely cool "Torpedo" insulated water bottle as a new product... They had a bunch of them at the Smart Cycling conference in San Jose this past weekend, and these things will ignite Water Bottle Envy in anyone...

I have an Ultralight bike mirror that I adore. I got it from the Ortlieb site. I use it on my road bikes, but it would work on a flat-bar bike, too.

Humnh. I guess Chuck Harris never trademarked "Ultralight." More's the pity, since they're reputedly the original bike mirrors, made from 100% recycled material (except, I believe, the plastic coating on the arm).

Almost 40 years later, Chuck still sells them out of a bike trailer at regional cycling tours - I got mine direct from him.

Compared to the ones with plastic arms and polished steel mirrors, they're not super-light, but they're light enough, and super durable.

Very durable and very "cool" ... or dorky, depending on who your "cool definers" are Mine's still going strong after years and after breaking several others. I notice they're sold out online...

    5$ well spent!

I wouldn't ride without my rear view mirror. I have a bike where nothing is standard, so I had to shop high and low for a mirror that would fit on the handlebar. And of all places, I found it at the hardware store (Canadian Tire for those of you in Canada), and it was 5$. I loved it so much that when I rented a bike that was not outfited with a mirror, I bought another one. Sometimes, we go for the specialized stores, when the thing we are looking for might be right in our backyard. But, yes, the rear view mirror is a must. Specially in the city.

Go to CycleAware, pick one out, and when you're checking out, enter the coupon code LCI1853 (my LCI registration number). It's good for 15% off your purchase until December 31 this year.
