As an addendum to :"offshoring" food production outside of one's own country:
In the past few months, it just bothers me to see 'fresh snow peas' from China at the market. It is super hard to believe that this fresh green produce has not been already grown/treated with a chemical so that it survives the flight to Vancouver, B.C. Before in past years, I did see all fresh snow peas labelled from British Columbia.
And snow peas are not super hard to grow in temperate climates in North America. It is grown locally across Canada and we have greenhouses to grow it easily here in the winter.![]()
