"How about if we all just try to follow these very simple rules of the road? Drive like the person ahead on the bike is your son/daughter. Ride like the cars are ambulances carrying your loved ones to the emergency room. This should cover everything, unless you are a complete sociopath."

Random babblings and some stuff to look at.
Make sure to pack lots of layers! It gets cold at night or when it's foggy here.
Yeah, but that's especially in the summer months. Come September/October the Central Valley starts to cool down, which stops the hot-air-rising midday "pump" that pulls damp air in off the Pacific across the cold Humboldt Current making all that afternoon fog. So Sep/Oct is when San Francisco gets its best weather, before the shorter Fall days and the on-coming rainy season make for cooler weather overall by November. You've picked the best time to see SF.Still, a heat wave in the Valley can still pull in the fog now and then, so do bring a fleece jacket just in case.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.
