But what I want to know is what the heck is that big black plastic thing on top of the stem??

I know, I know, I forgot to take that off. We were futzing with adjustments at the last minute at the shop. That may be what they used to mark Knott's preferred height, bring it back to that after the test ride?

I'll re-stage the shots minus the tape, add the basket with flowers, move the recycling bin, more lavender in the foreground, dog in the background ....

Sigh, everyone wants to be the art director.

Looks like a mounting bracket of some sort. Maybe for a basket or handlebar bag.

Oh, that's it- a mounting bracket for the front basket. Looks heavy duty!

No, I wasn't referring to the black electrical tape used to mark the stem height.

The black thing looks like the mounting basket for the wicker basket that Lisa (BSG) gave me that was from her brother via Nashbar. I love that basket, and it really makes the bicycle look cheerful!
