    Hacked again!

This is the second time in two years I've had my debit card hacked. Each time it happened after I used it at TJ Maxx. Now I read that their customer database was stolen two years ago and customers hacked. Thank you Wachovia. They caught the problem the first time the same day, and I caught it the same day this time. I happened to check the account on line and noticed five on-line purchases, not me. The good news, I got the guys e-mail address from one of the companies he ordered stuff from. I will be getting a subpoena for his info and I will be knocking on his door with the police. Just thought I should share the news. I will be using cash if I shop at TJ Maxx. This gives a whole new meaning to buyer beware I guess!

I never use my debit card for any transactions. I always use a credit card. This way its the credit card companies money which is stolen and they have to prove I bought it. I only use my debit card to withdraw money from ATMs. I am not sure what laws protect you when you use your debit card but I know I am only liable for $50 for credit cards. However in most cases the credit card company waive this.

I disputed the charges with Wachovia and they will reimburse them once they contact the concerned companies. I try not to use credit cards because I don't want the climbing interest rates to build up. I have heard from some friends that credit card companies are canceling accounts. Boom, just like that. They were small amounts, so not too big a deal. They joined my/reunion.com, ordered vitamins and played video games on line. All stuff that can hopefully be traced. Apparently whenever somebody does this, they will try an account with small charges to see if the numbers work and then they go for the big buy.

    I'm another non-debit card user.

I just discipline myself with abit of cash for groceries, snacks, coffees and toiletries. Rest on credit card.

I don't shop online at all. I have plenty of clothing, gift-buying is done in person, too many books anyway...

I couldn't go on debit card..it would not help me budget at all. As far as sudden cancellation of credit card even if one always makes payments on time..wonder if it's more of trend in the U.S. vs. Canada.
