great review! but you have to tell us what kind of saddle was the one that you tossed. I'm also impressed how you didn't have to go through the agonizing trial and error that a lot of us do here.

You write well, hope to see more of your posts here as you get acquainted with your new bike.

Thanks. And yes I went through the 'trial and error' with saddles over 20 years, and while I have not ridden the Aspide, I have ridden enough San Marcos, and saddles in general, to know what I like. So I made best guess based on that.

The saddle that came on the Ruby was the Specialized Jet 143.

Thanks tzvia for the review - I especially enjoyed your comments because I just ordered a Specialized myself (Ruby Comp). I am getting fitted and test riding it on Saturday. After getting advice from several others (including people on this board), I decided to switch the wheel set (bontrager race lite) and brakes (ultrega). It sounds like I made the right decision. I'll decide on the saddle after I ride it. Can I ask you what pedals you decided on. Also, any other advice?

You will love it, myarider. And getting fitted is a great way to start.

I am an evangelical Speedplay woman. I bought X2s when they first came out and never looked back. Nothing compares IMO. Mine were so ugly after untold thousands of miles, that I bought X1 TIs instead of using the old pedals.

Since my initial review, I have also replaced that fat gushy bar tape with my new favorite, Deda tape.

It's been a month now, and feels just about dialed in. Now I am looking at MTBs to replace my old Proflex 856.
