Lightbulb To wear or not to wear...

OK, I am new to Triathlon-ing (all areas of it.) I'll just get that out of the way first. I have gotten over the sticker shock of everything and have learned a great deal about how committed you HAVE to be to lay out serious cash for some of these things. Bikes, clothes, shoes etc.etc.
But here is the question that I have longed to ask but was too embarrassed to ask the "guys" in the know. Ready? Here goes... What in the world do you wear UNDER your Tri-shorts? Tri-top? I assume regular panties and regular sports bra??? Yes, I know it is a lame question but a girl has gotta know. Thanks in advance for any help and advise.

Nothing under the shorts (they have a thin pad to keep you comfy on the bike). The same is true for regular bike shorts with a chamois.

No clue about the tri tops - though I would expect that some of the better endowed would wear a sports bra too??

Smile Wedgies suck, trust me, I know.

I agree with CA, no underwear with the Tri-shorts.

In my mind, a tri-suit is just a more multifunctional version of a swimsuit and since I don't wear a bra and panty under my training swimsuit, why would I under my tri-suit?

I also learned early on when I started running (my primary sport) that underwear only do one thing when exercising, go for the crack.

If the idea of not wearing anything doesn't sit well with you, I suggest going with a sport thong. A thong knows where it's supposed to be and doesn't go anywhere but there. I run in them often and they are great.

Hopefully the tri-suit top you have has a support/sports bra in it. But again like, CA said if you are well endowed you may need something more.

This is the tri-top I have and I'm really pleased with the upper support.

The one thing I really like about Zoot too is that all the seams & fabric are super soft, so while something might have a lot of support you aren't stuck with scratchy wet material on your skin.

    Hope this helps!

Skin....I wear nothing under my tri-suit. I am small up top so I do not need any additional support.

Certainly nothing under the tri shorts.

I am absent-busted (!) and wear nothing under my sports top, but if you are graced with more boobage then probably a sports bra would be the way to go. Whatever you need to run comfortably.

    That's a relief

Thank you all so very much. It really is nice knowing that wedgies won't be an issue. Who would have thunk it...

This is why I only run in my tri shorts these days. No wedgies ever.

Pretty much no one wears drawers. Some of the tri suit tops have built in breast support and some do not.

The one piece tri suits have a special set of challenges.

My friend and I did a tri on a military base. Hundreds of XX participants. One head for females--it had two doorless stalls.

Add to that the fact that many of us had a start time of 2 or more hours into the race...people who get nervous have to go...and go...and go. Of course One of the two toilets got stopped up.

So you walk into the bathrooms and there are gals doubled over on the pot with the only garment they have on down around their knees.

Bathrooms at a tri see alot of active duty of lots of people with nervous colons.

Keep in mind that if you have to go anywhere in a race, it's a semi-public event.

Wow - I am sooo glad you posted this! Just today I had decided to do my tri in a swimsuit with a bra underneath and just sacrifice the few seconds for pulling on shorts. But I never even thought about the bathroom issue!

I'm fairly busty up top, so I have to wear a moisture wicking quick drying bra under the tri top (well, as quick drying as one that's very supportive can be ). I lost a lot of weight a few years ago, and although I was glad to lose my chest, the skin was saggy like an old woman, so when I gained most of the weight back (I knew I couldn't maintain the loss), the fuller top shelf was the one thing I was glad to see come back (not the thighs and butt tho).
