What does your Doc or PT say???

That is the question.
Last week after not seeing much improvement in my knee, my DH ask me to please just do nothing. Just rest it. He felt that even putting the pull bouy between my legs and pushing off the wall at the pool was causing further irritation in my patellar tendon.
So for the past 8 days, I have done nothing. Well lifted some light weights, but nothing involving my legs.
I do think that I am seeing progress, and I would like to go back to the pool, but I am paranoid about having even the smallest set-back.
So to swim or not to swim, that is the question.
What does your Doc or PT say???
Beth
Swim with a pull bouy. Do not push off the wall with your sore leg. That would be my suggestion. No kicking.

Doc said go ahead and swim, don't have a PT unless you count the TE PT clinic!
Yep. What Wahine said. No kicking, no pushing off w/that leg. Just concentrate on pulling. It will feel good to be moving.
Believe me- I know the feeling. Being injured just sux!![]()
Sounds like a PT would be very useful and helpful. Can your doc refer you to a PT (paid for by insurance, of course)?
RNGR-I hope you can get to the pool & use your good leg! DOn't fret about not being able push off the wall, just swim.
Tuli-RNGR has seen a physio..
Is a physio the same thing as a Sports Medicine Doc? I saw a knee specialist. He did not start pt at the time. Said I might need it after my period of rest...If Ican get exercises, I am diligent enough to do them at home.
(diligent...that is a hoot...calling any triathlete diliget...mildly obsessive more like it...come to think of it mildly is a hoot too....)
OK, I am going to go swimming tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!
If you're worried about holding the pull bouy, you can always use a strap to hold your legs together (around your knees). That's what my BIL does, he has parapelegia. But I really don't think that holding the pull bouy will bother you. It involves mostly your adductor muscle group, not your quad and it might even help a bit.

YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going swimming tomorrow!!!!!
Yoda, your BIL is paralyzed? Holy Cow. Makes all of our stuff seem trivial, eh?
He swims, does he do any other sports?
Yup. He's what is referred to as a low para. No legs but has most of his abdomenal muscles working for him. He used to do a lot of wheelchair marathoning and swimming. He even swam the Molokai Channel in Hawaii. Now he plays competetive wheelchair tennis.
He's very inspirational.

Rocknrollgirl, just wanted to say I hope your knee gets to feeling better soon. Isn't it nice to have Wahine and Knot here to help us?![]()
Are you kidding me? These guys rock! The walking wounded would be lost without them.
And Yoda, I can't even play regular tennis ! Amazing.
