Its 2008!!!!!

Wishing all tail winds and smooth roads...

2008 is here in Middle Earth - its nearly 7:30am and I have had my TE fix and am about to go for a ride. We had some rain yesterday and its still overcast this morning and only 16'C, so am going to wear arm-warmers.

How did everyone's year begin?
I had a hot bath at 11:30, and my partner followed me through and joined me in bed just before midnight and our two youngest came and "counted down" in our doorway. Another son had already gone to bed, and the fourth was still playing on the PC.

This year my daughter hosted her first big "do" and her friends arrived in dribs and drabs from about 5 pm - all up there were only 9 of them - 6 had to work - 2 didn't come because my daughter had told everyone they could drink but were not allowed to get drunk. (Isn't that amazing - a bunch of "townie" teens and a couple of early-20's choosing to camp and 'not get drunk' on New Year's Eve!)

They set up camp in the front paddock and lit a fire and had their dinner there, before walking by torchlight up our hill to watch the fireworks over Napier city. I don't know when they got back down, and I assume they are all asleep in their tents.

I am the only one (human that is) awake in the house and I hope I don't wake anyone when I go out to the shed to get my bike or down the drive (its gravel and makes a scrunchy sound)

I'm heading over to a friend's house to blow thing up. Technically fireworks aren't legal in the Parish (county) where I live, but they are legal where she lives. So friend hosts an annual BYOF extravaganza. Unfortunately I think there's going to be heavy fog this evening. Better than rain, I suppose, but makes seeing the fireworks kind of hard.

Our LBS held a small party at the shop. Lots of food and catching up with riding buddies (and the required comments of "I didn't recognize you with clothes on!" to all those folks we only ever see in bike duds and a helmet).
Then, over to our neighbor's house across the street for a few drinks and LOTS of spicy Indian food, which, although de-lish, wreaked havoc on my belly this a.m., and caused me to miss the N2 ride, although I promised lots of folks at the LBS that I'd be there. (I did catch them at the tail end, tho', as I got out later.)
I managed to make it to midnight (barely), but DH went home at 11. I went home when they tried to drag me out to the middle of the living room and dance!!! Nope....not gonna happen!
