Thanks Kathy, yes I did find a few red pepper HOODED shaks around (even on TE!) but I was looking for the half-zip and full-zip styles in the red. I'll probably get the red hooded one anyway.

Thanks Kathi- I probably will get the hoodie one anyway, but I knew there were several of those still available here and there online- it's the red half-zip and full-zip non-hooded ones that are now impossible to find.
Natasha- I did email Ibex about your returned one- got no reply. I think they are tired of me asking about other colors.

P.S. added: I did wind up ordering the red hoodie shak from TE. Who knows, maybe I'll find another red shak top to go with it eventually. At least I'll have the one that I can wear over other stuff. It'll be cozy in red.

    Shak

I got the Shak full-zip in thistle heather. The color is beautiful, but not very bright. I have a plum one from last year also. They are amongst my favorite pieces of clothing.
Good luck with your hunt for red pepper.

I just love the shak fabric and fit. I have the black jersey. I did get the red pepper HOODIE shak from TE(!). That will be nice as an outer layer.
I have looked high and low over the internet- and their just are no redpepper shak half or full zips anywhere. I saw some Ice Blue ones (not me).

I'd like a change from the black shak jersey when it's in the laundry. I agree the thistle heather is a nice color but every time I buy a piece of clothing in a lavender or purpley hue I wind up not liking the color after I wear it a few times. This has happened several times and I just won't buy any more purple-hued clothes....they just don't click with me.

The brown is "comforting" and "safe", but not very interesting and I can't say I love how brown tops look with black pants. I wear mostly black on the bottom, either leggings or skirt or wool pants. Do you gals like brown tops over black pants?

I guess I may just need to think about going with the "warm green" as an alternate to my black shak.
    Any opinions?

Purple-y blues look great on me. If you have any woolies in purple hues that you don't like in a size L; pm me, eh?

    wool baclavas

I mean balacalvas. does anyone have any recommendations? i guess the only companies with wool balaclavas are smartwool, icebreaker, and ibex. Does anyone have any experience with the balaclavas? I own a lot of smartwool socks and like them. Icebreaker has really great fitting and nice wool tops. Not much from Ibex has worked out for me- they just are always too big. So many woollie sellers so little money.

    Shak

    Lisa,
I think a brown shak would look great with black bottoms. On the Ibex website the model for the full zip shak has a brown shak with black pants. However, the green would give you more variety than the brown as an alternative to your black shak. The green is brighter and cheerier.
I agree, I love the shak fabric and fit.

Sorry Knot- I gave the Smartwool purple heather zip to my biking daughter!

Natasha- thanks for the input- it helps! I am still thinking what to do- the brown or the green?.....
(I have the black shak jersey, and I'll be getting the red hoodie soon....)

What a great sweater! Backcountryoutlet.com actually has this sweater for a bit cheaper, plus free shipping. (Backcountry.com runs SAC).

OK ladies, I have read and read your posts and am amazed at how many items you all have and how you sing the praises of wool. I must confess-The ONLY items I own are wool socks. Don't ban me please! I just went to a website and put 3 items into a shopping cart. BUT before I order. I need to ask a question. The items say that they are a base layer item, all 1/4 zip top. I thought I wanted to wear something like underarmor next to me then this top. I am under the impression that this is a no go correct? I use this wool as my baselayer and then what do I put over that (see below first)? If they are a base layer, how heavy are they? I am in the wool-less club here. I am looking at these items for x-c skiing, walking, and perhaps snowshoeing. I usually wear a heavy biking jersey and a soft shell jacket for walking/x-c skiing and find it okay and haven't had any problems. Would I use the wool top instead of my biking jersey? I have read the advantages, I just need to be sold now. i know- too many questions.

Tell us exactly which zip base layer tops are in your cart (brand, item name description), then we can advise you better.

sigh.....I got my red pepper Ibex shak Hoodie.....and I'll have to send it back.
It fits me perfectly- but I wanted it to wear over some base layers and it's too snug for that. It's a LARGE, for goodness sake! What is up with that??- I'm just a medium average sized woman and a large fits me perfectly?? Sadly, they do not seem to be available ANYWHERE on the internet in an XL red pepper.
I have to give up my quest for the red shak.
    Time to rethink again.
