Gloves To Fit Long Fingers & Nails

I have long skinny hands and long fingers and have had surprisingly good luck with Specialized MEN'S gloves in size small. The finger-bits seem to be a touch longer than the women's med, and they just feel better.

For winter wear, try plain ol' wool knit gloves (very flexible and stretchable) with leather palms and finger grips. The index finger of my beloved Smartwool gloves finally fell apart last winter, so I'll be out looking for a new pair soon.

I'm with Knot. I have smallish palms but long, thin fingers, and though I tend to like women's gloves just b/c they tend to be on sale, mens' tend to be long enough in the fingers. The only unfortunate thing is that a lot of mens' gloves are for men with thick boy fingers instead of long, slender womans' fingers... so *shrug* That said, I think the GF would kill me if my nails looked anything like that.

I agree about the men's gloves in that I think their hands overall, fingers included, are made to fit thickness, as well as extra size and length. Think the camp for long lady fingers is that of men's sizing. Maybe even a stretchy liner glove might give me better fit under a man sized glove and take up the slack for the thickness, hmmm.

Yep, like I put in the original posted question, you either love the nails or hate the nails....it's feast or famine....

I ended up giving up my long finger nails for rock climbing. There's just no compromise there; long nails and climbing just don't mix. Regardless of my nails, I have largish hands and long fingers and I have a terrible time finding women's gloves to fit. If I try enough, I can sometimes find one that'll work. Other times I settle for men's.

How much too short do gloves tend to be for you? If it's only a little bit would you consider shortening your nails some without giving them up completely?

My problem isn't my nails, but I definitely feel your pain.

Thanks for the compromise idea . I guess once I glove shop some more, I'll see if just a bit shorter might work. Going less length for a few cooler months of the year, when I need full fingered gloves, would not kill me off, vs giving it up totally.

At holiday times, when even ladies who don't normally have nails all year, will sometimes get a set for a special party, etc. Ahh, snow on the ground and road, no riding for me . So, they could be longer then...and still summer months. I knew you ladies would help me with some type of a 12-step program to find a way to "have both" .

Wow, the rock climbing is pretty cool ! Yes, no way on the nails for that one! That's one nice thing about cycling as a sport in the nail department, they are protected on the bike...unless ya wreck, then you have bigger problems of things breaking besides just a nail. Thanks!

Minus the finger nails, that could be a picture of my hand - fair skin & all. I held my hand up next to the monitor & it was creepy how similar our hands are in shape!

I've given up on women's gloves - my palm is too wide & fingers too long to fit, especially if there is any special palm cushion going on. Mens only ~ which fortunately works for cycling gloves, but leaves me in a world of hurt for regular winter gloves if I'm looking for anything remotely feminine. I like the fit of Novara gloves at REI.

I think my hands are bigger - I can't even wear the XL Isotoners if I can find them - especially if they are lined. I did ask my parents recently who I get to blame for the large bone structure... between gloves & saddle issues it's been a blast, let me tell you apparently I get to blame the little bit of dutch blood in me.
