I just thought I'd drop in and introduce myself...... and my bike! Scrolling through, I've already found about 90% of the answers to questions I have- however I am uniquely talented at finding new issues...
So!
Me: 26, grad student, runner (competitive thru hs and college), new convert to road biking as cross-training tool and also 'cause I discovered triathlons.
Bike: 2005 Cannondale R500 feminine triple. Love at first sit. and pedal. Sticker price, I proudly noted, is worth more than my car. Thank god for employee deals (I work at a certain outdoor store co-op).
First adventure on bike: Well, actually the third. I'm bike commuting to work once or twice a week- so the scariest experience to date was pedaling through downtown Seattle during rush hour on a road bike. Now, I'm fairly used to the solidity and squat-ness of a big fat mountain bike with big fat cushy roll-over-em-all tires, so I felt like I was teetering on a bucking bronco wobbling around Metro busses and potholes. Downhill. Yeeps! However, I'm still alive and so I suspect this will become a habit.
I'm pleased to meet y'all, and perhaps with time I just may make a full conversion to being a roadie. Plus I like bright colors and wearing spandex in public.....

Welcome to the Board Tricky! I'm actually reading these forward today so if you haven't had a chance: bop on over to the "getting to know you thread" under the open and read more about us then our mothers may know and tell us more about you! (PS: I first read you ID as TrickyTigger - must be too much TdF viewing crossing my eyes!)
and welcome Green - if I remember right, I saw your post under the getting to know you thread!! but welcome again anyway - coz I love meeting new ppl!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
TrickyTige and Green, good to know you!![]()
hiya and welcome to you both!
tricky... the bucking bronco analogy is hilarious!Yep, it will become old hat in no time... especially if ya continue that commute... I lived in Redmond for a few years so I know the Seattle area a bit... it takes courage to ride in that traffic! But heck, if you can ride in THAT you can ride anywhere!
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
