Ride Report: Olympic Cycling Classic

Yesterday was the Olympic Cycling Classic in Port Angeles. A lot of people came from a lot of places, and it was a friendly group. Everyone who passed me...that is to say many, many people...LOL ...were really friendly.

The ride benefits the middle school, so there were tons of volunteers in the 12-13 y.o. range. At every stop I rolled into, I was treated to wild yells, ringing cowbells, and full on pep-rally cheers.

This was the first time I have done this ride, and it was well organized, well marked, and well supported. There were three options: 30 flat miles, a 64 mile metric, and a 111 mile century. They also had a bike rodeo for families, and a great raffle with all kinds of cool prizes donated by businesses. I would definitely recommend this ride.

I did the metric, which included about 3450 feet of climbing, running from Port Angeles east through the foothills in Sequim, and taking in four sections of waterfront & beaches. Unfortunately for visitors, the mountains were all socked in with clouds. Still, the route is beautiful and all the trees, flowers and bushes were in full bloom. Lots of bald eagle and deer sightings. Next year, I want to be ready for the full century. This is a good ride to do, and a good cause to support.
