    Shimano 2005 Sandals (SD60)

I bought a pair of Shimano sandals last week, because one can never have too many shoes, and they look so cool and comfortable on other people's feet. I decided to get the discontinued two-strap style, figuring they will be gone soon enough, while the current three-strap style will be around for a while. You can still find them, mostly at the MSRP, not on clearance, though some places have them marked way down, but in weird sizes. MSRP is $80.

I wore them at work Thursday and Friday to break them in. (The cleats are recessed enough to not touch the ground.) On Saturday, I wore them on a 45 mile ride, and 75 miles on Sunday, both with and without socks, and for walking around afterwards. On the bike, it was like I couldn't even feel them, they are such a non-intrusive fit. Like my feet were only resting on cushy rubber platforms. My toes enjoyed the wiggling room. The soles are plenty stiff- I felt no loss of power.

Walking around they are fine, but for driving, I think I prefer my Birks with nothing around my heel that I can slip off and on.

Can't wait to test them in the rain! Can't wait to test them with warm wool socks!! I plan on wearing them on my 100 mile mountain ride next Saturday- that's how much I love them.

I was hoping you'd hate them so I'd be less tempted!

So I guess you don't want to hear how the first night, they were so cute, I sat with them in my lap and petted them. And made BF pet them, too.

    ROTFLMAO!

ETA: Huh? Who stole all my lovely capital letters?
ETA 2: There they are! That was random.

Dang, Nanci, you scored! I've looked all over the 'net, and cannot find a 41/42 pair. I printed out the list of Shimano dealers in Chicago and thought I'd make some calls today, but never got a chance. I may just call LBS and ask if they can find any for me. Or cave and get the '06 ones.

Enjoy! Are Dill, Milly, or Maisie jealous of you petting them?

I got my sandals! You should've seen my face when I figured out that I needed to put cleats in them...and then when I remembered that I have a spare pair of cleats! Tonight I managed to pry off the rubber cover (harder than it looks), and put on the cleats. Unfortunately, it's 41 degrees and raining here, so I won't be wearing them on the bike just yet. They feel good just walking around the house though. Thanks again for your help, Nanci.

That was lucky you had cleats! I had a spare set too that I found when I found all the stuff when I was searching for my shock pump. Found a brand new set of cleats, a brand new pair of gel gloves, and a brand new set of XT skewers (that I can really use on my spare MTB, since one of its skewer's springs got killed, and it has crap skewers, anyway).

It _is_ hard to get the rubber off the sandals, I was sure I was going to stab myself. Usually it's not that bad.

I'm wearing mine on a sunny/85F 200k tomorrow. Maybe I'll even get to take my socks off! It's supposed to be 60 when I start!

I know, I am famous for stabbing or cutting my own hands while doing simple tasks around the house. Since I USE my hands to deliver babies and do pap smears and stuff, and wash them about 5,000 times a day, this is a bit of a problem! So I was very, very careful, and managed to injure neither myself nor the sandals.

Have a great time on the ride. It is so cold and gross here, you can't even believe it. And I've lived here, or further north, all my life. ARGH! L.

    YEEEHAAA!!!
i'm finally getting my pair on Friday! The downside is that it's now below 10 degrees celcius here and it will rain as well on Friday..

Oh well, I'll just wear them inside then

Someone told me to make sure to put sunscreen on my feet, even though all I ever wear is sandals or barefoot. Boy, I should have listened...
