So after landing in Paris, he takes train out to Dijon. Now, he didn't research this advance and discovers he is in the heart of the Burgundy wine country area.
And he was passing through famed wineries that sold the creme de la creme of red wines @$500.00 Can per bottle. Sheesh.
Because he will be cycling for the next 10 days, he can't have a bottle of wine weighing down his panniers.
Morale of the story: research abit where you are cycle-touring in advance. Plan bike trip so that the tail end of trip, will include wineries, not the front end of the trip.
@ $500/bottle, they should ship back to the states.
Morale of the story...save your vacation time! 
Would LOVE to be riding through wine country in France (we actually have friends who own a house in the south/central France (mmm, Chateauneuf du pape region).
