    Is Ortlieb worth the money?

I finally bought a decent camera and want to protect it in a waterproof handlebar bag. To me, worth the money means: lasts a long time; really, truly is waterproof; and is well-designed.

Also, I've never used a handlebar bag that fits onto a mount on the handlebars. Is that type of bag easy and quick to remove? Since I'm usually in the city, I have to take everything off the bike even to use the restroom.

Yup, that's Ortlieb. I've got the panniers. They do keep everything dry, even in Seattle. The design is quite clever and simple, and the materials are tough.

I don't have the handlebar bag, but was considering it at one point.

i have the medium ortlied bar bag and love it. the mount seems hard to figure out but is very intuitive once you "get it". I have also taken the mount off and reinstalled it several times.

the bag kept my stuff dry during downpours.

I've joined the bike rack/bag crew.

Knott got me a Wald rear mounted folding basket. I love it! No bag needed or can just toss a bag of groceries in or even the dozen eggs themselves.

If I was hauling precious cargo such as a camera in rainy conditions I'd get a waterproof case like Lowepro's all season pack.

Ortlieb's are sexy but I like it that I don't need to have the bag to carry stuff.

I'm a photographer and I use my own equipment at work, which means I commute with it often. I'm a messenger bag user (looked at Ortlieb messenger packs, but I'm very small and they are quite large and heavy). My solution was to get a small thin kayaker's dry bag. I have a second one for my clothes. It's kept my stuff dry and happy in some absolute downpours.

Dh has one and he loves it. He picked it up when he found out the mount for his Arkel handlebar bag wasn't compatible with the stem/handlebar on his BigDummy. Here's his write-up of it:
