I received my newsletter from Hammer Nutrition and they have a rather large article about appestat as the healthy approach to weight loss.. Have anyone tried this before? Any positive or negative opinions about it? Thanks

Dunno, but my new book (Woman's Guide to Cycling) says that the best recovery drink--better than all the Hammer and Accelerade recovery drinks--is plain old chocolate milk. That's been my recovery drink of choice for several years because I like it and it works and it's cheap and you can always find it in any convenience store and it makes a great bonk-stopper on a long ride.
Obviously, I'm not a big fan of engineered athletic formulas, although I do take diluted gatorade on long rides (over one hour).
It's a diet supplement made my Hammer that claims to suppress your appetite and prevent carbs from being converted to fat. It contains, among other things, zinc and Chromium Polynicotinate. Because, like all supplements, it's not FDA-approved, there are no official studies on the efficacy or safety of the product. In other words, take at your own risk.
As a general rule, I stay away from such products. Because they're unregulated, potential side effects do not get publicized until people have already gotten sick. That, and I don't believe that there's any magic pill for weight loss.
