    Heart Rate Monitor

    Hello!

I am starting to train with a coach for the 70.3 in New Orleans in April.

I have to get a heart rate monitor, but I don't know which one! I don't have to have it for swimming, but I will use it on the bike and run.

    Any suggestions! Thanks!

I had the same question when I started - the thread is back 2 Christmas's (2006).

I got a Polar F-6 - I LOVE it. It was less than $100 and doesn't have the bells and whistles of a lot of them but has exactly what I need. I do wear it swimming too on occasion and it is fine.

I love it -love it -love it and it is pink

I have a (pink) Polar F6, too, and it works great. I don't Tri, though.

    I have a Nike Imara (I don't know if that's spelled right).
It's a regular watch that has the HR monitor to go along with it. I'm lazy and don't want to fiddle with 2 watches (i.e. putting on the wrist band along with my watch when I workout). I just put on the HR strap and go when I'm working out.
It does everything: AVG HR, you can set HR zones (low, target, high), calories burned, intervals, an alarm, etc.

It was about $100 and I've had it for a few years. I really like it.

I have the Polar f-6 in Green Tea, looks better against my very fair skin than the light pink. I love it although I admittedly don't know what I am doing with it!

Is it bad that I want the polar one just because it is cuter than the other ones?

Can you set the heart rate zones on your own or does it automatically set the zones?

I totally have no IDEA what I am doing with it, but that is why I am getting help :-)

    Thanks!
