    best tennis shoes?

My feet hurt after I ride for about 10 minutes. I am wearing some running shoes that I got at Target that are pretty supporting. Does it take a while for your feet to get used to pedalling? Or do you think I should get different shoes? I don't think I'm ready for the click in pedals yet and it looks like you need those to use real cycling shoes? Has anyone else had this problem when they first started?

You may need a shoe with a stiffer sole than a tennis shoe. You don't have to have clipless pedals to use some types of cycling shoes. Look for touring shoes. Often they come with a removable piece of sole just in case some day you do decide to upgrade your pedals, but until then you can leave the sole intact.

Until I finally upgraded to a real biking shoe, I was using a pair of horse riding sneakers that seemed to work really well. They sole is stiffer then a regular sneaker and it has a small heel on the shoe which is nice to help keep your foot from sliding too far forward and off the pedal. The shoe I was using and really liked was the Ariat Duma. The nice thing about the shoe is that it is comfortable and nice looking so you can use it for biking or just wearing around!

Mostly, I get by fine with sneakers and platform pedals. I also use Superfeet insoles (now) or custom orthotics (when I learned to ride a bike). Those help make a regular sneaker much stiffer in the sole. My feet will screech at me if I start doing something silly like pedaling heels up, or with my feet in the wrong spot on the pedal. Fix up my form, pain goes away.

Most people don't have such whiny feet. So getting good form can be harder. Clipless pedals, toeclips and so forth are to help you get good form.
