San Francisco cyclist searching for Monday/ Tuesday Rides

Hi out there! I'm new to the cycling forum. I live in San Francisco (Outer Richmond) and have just recently started cycling. My longest ride so far is 30 miles. I really like cycling, and I'd love to start cycling with a group. The only thing is, I have a strange work schedule. I have to be downtown to work by 1:00 on Saturdays, and Sundays are out because I work all day. But I have Mondays and Tuesdays off. If there is anyone out there who would like to cycle with me on either day, please let me know. I do have a bike rack so I could meet somewhere if necessary.

Midweek Madness returns!!! Join Lorri on this fast-paced ride, focusing on group riding, pacelines, and fun! Meet at Woodside Town Hall (at the intersection of Woodside Road and Whiskey Hill Road) in Woodside, ready to ride at 6:00pm. 20 miles, fast pace, this is not a no-drop ride.

Wednesday Dirty Velo Girls Low-Key Mountain Bike Ride -- NEW NIGHT!!!
Join Elizabeth on this mountain bike ride just for beginners. Yup, this is a ride for beginners (not a bunch of advanced girls who show up for an easy ride). All riders are welcome for socializing and support, but this is an easy, beginner, getting-used-to-mountain-biking ride -- mostly fire roads with a little bit of single track thrown in just for fun. Park at the Berryessa Center at Penitencia Creek Park in San Jose, and we'll ride up to Alum Rock together.

Thanks for the info on velogirls. They seem to have a good variety of ride locations. Have you done any of the rides hosted by Valley Spokesmen? The two groups seem to co-sponsor a monthly ride in the East Bay. It's listed as a "no-drop but brisk-paced training ride." It sounds... kind of intense.

If it is co-sponsored by Velogirls and Valley Spokesmen, it would probably be a good ride - if they say no drop, they should mean it. I haven't ridden with either group, but I know some of the Valley Spokesmen and they're great guys (and girls!). They're the folks who put on the CInderella, so they're pretty supportive folks. And Velogirls are all about encouraging women riders, so they should be good, too.

Welcome to the forum...

How long a ride do you normally do? Do you have any routes you particularly like?

I work in the richmond district, but work weekdays. I sometimes take rides after work, but nothing particularly long since I have to get home and of course be energetic enough for the rest of the week. My normal loop takes me through the park, along the great highway (or 48th) sometimes then up vicente to west portal area and then home. It could be fun to ride together sometime, but I am only available after work on Mon. & Tues.

I'm intrigued by the velogirls' ride and such (as you might be), but things outside of the city can sometimes not be so convenient, especially when dealing with traffic.

I sometimes do the velogirls Saturday club ride, the route is lovely, little traffic and partly on La Canada road (closed to cars part of the season). Has a couple of challenging climbs but very doable for the beginner, very scenic and.....stops at a bakery in the middle.

One o' these days we should schedule a TE meet up on that ride.

That sounds great to me. I'd like to meet more people. Unfortunately, I missed last Saturday. I was kayaking.

My ride length varies quite a bit. Like you, it kind of depends on how much time I have. -Anywhere from 12 on the short days to 40 miles when I have more time. My Saturdays are generally pretty set in stone (the bridal/ retail business and all) I have to be in to work at 1:00 generally. Weds through Friday I work btw 9 and 6 so for a ride before work, I'd need to be home by 7:30 or could leave for an evening ride by about 7:15.
