In my research on saddles I have come to discover that the Selle Italia Trans Am I have is the same thing as the Selle Gel Flow (which I was thinking of trying!). It's just a different name.
Also, I read in two different places that the Terry Butterfly, which I was also thinking of trying, is basically the same thing as the Trans Am/Gel Flow. There are different versions of the Butterfly, so I'm sure they aren't all exactly the same, but I guess the dimensions and basic design is the same.
It was a revelation for me. Hopefully it will be for someone else and, therefore, be helpful in some way.![]()

That is good to know, I'm looking at saddles now.
Along those lines, I've been wondering who makes the products that Performance bike sell? A number of different manufacturers' i'm sure and I'd bet some well known names in there.
2008 Trek FX 7.2/Terry Cite X
2009 Jamis Aurora/Brooks B-68
2010 Trek FX 7.6 WSD/stock bontrager
I think I read the same thing somewhere but here is my two cents. I have ridden on all of them and they are all different. I love the Selle Italia Lady Gel flo and have ridden on that for years. I hated the Butterfly, it was one of the worst saddles I've tried. I now am trying the Selle Italia SLK gel flow. Its a harder saddle with less padding and lighter. Seems okay but I'm still tweaking it. You can look at both saddles here at TE.
Surlygirl ... the Selle Trans Am and Gel Flow are two different saddles? I read they were the exact same saddle with different names. The thing I read said the Trans Am was the "OEM" name, but I don't know what OEM means? Did you try both saddles and was there actually a difference?
Well, anyways, thanks for your input. Maybe I'll still consider trying the Gel Flow. I currently have a Terry Damselfly and Falcon X on order to try. Hopefully I'll like one of them and then I'll send the other one back. (Yay fo the 30 day ride it and love it policy!) Or if I like them both I can put one on my single and one on the tandem.
Jiffer,
Oem means original equipment manufacturer. My original Lady Gel Flow said Trans Am on the back part of the saddle, I just went and checked and the newer one I have does not say it. They are exactly the same otherwise. It is a great saddle for me. You may want to look at the sport version which is lighter but looks the same. Check under whats new here at TE.
Thanks Surlygirl. So, just to clarify, the Trans Am and the Gel Flow ARE the same thing with different names? They feel the same and everything?
And it's the Butterfly that is definitely different? I just want to make sure I fully understand what you're saying!![]()
Bingo. The Selles are the exact same. The butterfly for me was awful. Unfortunately the only way to tell what saddle is right for you is to try them. What is pain and agony for one may be heaven for someone else. Good luck.
